A Home and Away promo currently airing in Australia hints that Rose Delaney is about to find romance with newcomer Tex Wheeler.
And let’s face it, he can hardly be a worse choice than her first love interest!
At the end of March, Rose (Kirsty Marillier) and half-brother Xander (Luke Van Os) created a commotion by announcing that they were the siblings that Jasmine Delaney (Sam Frost) had never known she had.
Three months later, the couple has adapted to life in Summer Bay. Rose is now employed by the Yabbie Creek Police, and Xander has found work as a paramedic at a nearby ambulance station.
But ever since Rose first arrived in town and caught sight of Cash Newman (Nicholas Cartwright) at the outdoor pool, a scandal has been simmering. She had no idea that the man she was looking up was actually Jasmine’s boyfriend as she examined his topless physique.
All emotions were put to the side when she learned the truth about Cash and Jasmine’s relationship; she had no desire to end it.
That is, until Cash got wasted at the Parata BBQ and asked Rose to continue drinking with him at Salt after everyone else parted ways.
Cash, a self-described lightweight, overindulged in alcohol and was expelled from Salt as a result. Because Jasmine had never seen him drunk before, he insisted on staying out late with Rose in her car until they sobered up.
Rose wondered why intoxicated Cash contacted her of all people, but nothing transpired between them; perhaps he had feelings for her too?
Things were quite awkward when she questioned him about it. Cash tried to break the news to her gently, but when he stated plainly that nothing would happen between them, it embarrassed her and made everything worse.
Rose makes every effort to avoid Cash, who only wants to set the record straight between them, as this week’s Australian episodes continue. They can’t avoid one another for eternity in a small town, after all.
Rose is content to stay hidden, though.
“He’s popping up everywhere I turn,” Rose frustratedly explains to Xander. “Trying to be normal around him is exhausting.”
Rose hastily gets up to go as Cash approaches her on the beach and only wants to talk.
Oh my goodness, this is absurd now! She responds by informing Cash that “it’s called having boundaries” and then requests that he back off and leave her alone.
Things deteriorate to the point where Rose tells her brother she’s not sure she wants to stay in Summer Bay any longer.
It makes sense since now that Jasmine, the person they came to town for, has left, things at work are quite awkward.
Rose, you’ve never been one to run, so why start now? Xander, on the other hand, is adamant that they should stay.
Thankfully, Rose will soon be able to forget about her embarrassing interaction with Cash thanks to the entrance of a newcomer.
Tex Wheelan comes on.
He recently made his acting debut as the handyman Marilyn (Emily Symons) hired to work at the Bait Shop and Caravan Park while Alf (Ray Meagher) was away. He is played by Lucas Linehan.
When Marilyn started to reign with an iron fist and shorten Tex’s lunch breaks so she could start him on his next task, Tex was taken aback. Later in the week, she continues to be strict and cracks the whip even harder.
Tex has simply continued with the chores at hand despite Marilyn’s domineering attitude toward management and his empty stomach. He is working outside in the fresh air and, maybe more importantly, he is enjoying the scenery.
Last week, Rose drew his attention as she passed by, and he said to himself, “Nice!”
As he advances on Rose and extends an invitation to a drink, a new advertisement demonstrates that he does more than simply gaze.
The trailer summarizes our initial meeting with Tex, in which Irene (Lynne McGranger) introduces him to Marilyn as “the answer to your prayers”; is he also Rose’s?
“He’s handy,” says the promo, as it shows him helping lifeguard Nikau (Kawakawa Fox-Reo) with another beach rescue.
The first contacts between Rose and Tex are then shown when Tex approaches Rose on the beach.
Rose is shown standing next to Text’s ute with a wide grin on her face as the promo highlights his charm. Tex’s bright smile conveys just how thrilled he is to be conversing with the off-duty police officer.
“Didn’t you offer to buy me a coffee?” Rose quips in the next shot, and Tex has the perfect comeback.
“It’s getting a bit late for a coffee… unless you want to keep me up all night?”
The two are then shown having a drink together at Salt, where things appear to be going well because Rose compliments him on being “quite the charmer.”
However, the voiceover in the advertisement queries whether the handyman is “too good to be true” — should Rose be concerned about this newcomer?
He is sufficient to distract Rose from her problems with Cash for the time being.
“He’s a total breath of fresh air,” she tells Xander.
Her brother continues to worry that her emotions would cause problems and wonders, “What about Cash?”
“Cash who?”
Since fans watching the Home and Away Tour observed actors Lucas Linehan and Kirsty Marillier getting close and personal while filming scenes at Sydney’s Palm Beach, fans have known about Tex’s impending arrival and his infatuation with Rose.
It remains to be seen if he will be sufficient to aid Rose in permanently forgetting about her crush on Cash.
