Channel 5 boss Ben Frow has weighed in on Home and Away’s future in the wake of Neighbours’ axing.
‘There might be somewhere else to put it in the 5 spectrum.’
Fans are aware that Neighbours will finish at the end of the month after the UK broadcaster made the contentious decision to remove it off their lineup.
However, Channel 5 will continue to air Home and Away. When asked if the Summer Bay serial will suffer the same fate as Neighbours, TV executive Frow responded, “No. However, I think it will be intriguing to observe how we use it as we advance.
It is a life-of-series contract, therefore it won’t end until the creators decide to discontinue it.
While Neighbours was mostly funded by the UK broadcaster, Frow acknowledged that it was possible to continue producing the show for a UK audience.
He continued, calling the choice to stop the well-liked serial a “business,” and claimed that he chose to spend the money on “UK shows,” which he claims is a better use of the capital.
He told Radio Times, “Or I could spend the money on other things, which is what I opted to do.” “I can spend the Neighbours money better on UK shows,” you say.
Neighbours’ final episode will air on July 29 at 9pm.
Expect a whole host of famous faces to return, including Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan, who will reprise their iconic roles of Scott and Charlene Robinson.
