Corrie: Ken’s ‘True Motive’ for Rowan ‘Revealed’ as Soap Legend Outsmarts Cult Leader

Supporters of Coronation Street believe that Ken Barlow is “playing” Rowan Cunliffe in an attempt to undermine him, and they believe that the legend of the cobbles is doing so.

CorrieĀ fans reckon Ken Barlow is the man to take down Rowan Cunliffe’s reign of terror on the Cobbles.

Creepy Rowan, played by Emrhys Cooper, rocked up earlier this year as the head honcho of The Institute, a mysterious “self-help” group that’s been enchanting Leanne Battersby (the fabulous Jane Danson), leaving her totally clueless about his ulterior motives.

With her nearest and dearest like fiance Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) worried sick over her involvement, it’s been tension central.

And if that wasn’t enough soap drama, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) also caught the attention of The Institute, leading to her loved ones, especially Nick and Toyah, freaking out.

Rowan and Leanne

After attending a retreat last month, Amy told Leanne that she’s looking to invest some of the inheritance money she got from grandma Deirdre – leaving Leanne and Rowan delighted.

And over this week, Amy’s pestered her grandad Ken (William Roache) to see if he would release the funds left for her by her late grandmother Deirdre. Ken was hesitant at first – but later changed his tune, and met with Rowan, Leanne and Amy in the Rovers Return.

Ken, Amy, Leanne and Rowan

Leanne persuaded Ken to give Amy the money, showing him the cult’s business plan. He then agreed to release the funds – leaving Leanne and Rowan delighted.

However, viewers are convinced that Ken Barlow (William Roache) is on to something after he seemingly agreed to shell out Amy’s funds to Rowan. But fans reckon there’s a plot twist in the making with speculation rife on a Corrie fan page on Facebook.

One Corrie die-hard suggested: “Ken maybe laying a trap! Surely he hasn’t been hoodwinked?” A second weighed in: “I think Ken is very suspicious and will clock something ain’t right last minute.”

Another was quick to support the theory, writing: “I think he’s playing them, he has always been the smartest one on the street!” And another viewer was adamant, declaring: “I think Ken has suspicions and is out to bring them down!”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
