A CORONATION Street star is barely recognizable two decades after leaving Weatherfield, as he takes on a brand-new role.
Long-time fans of the ITV soap were stunned to see actor Scott Wright appear in an intense new thriller. Scott, now 50, portrayed builder Sam Kingston on the show for two years before departing in 2002.
On top of his work as a builder, he had a side gig as a stripper on the cobbles, performing under the name “The Masked Python.”
In this latest role, Scott looks completely transformed, appearing in scenes where he’s bloodied and bruised after a brutal beating.
Images from the film, The Stoic, show Scott’s character severely injured and covered in blood after being tortured. In the story, he initially takes down a group of young traffickers but is later captured and disfigured by the gang, who leave him for dead.
The independent film The Stoic will premiere on Prime Video next Monday. The cast also includes Jarreau Benjamin, Mia Vore, Mushi Noor, Declan Fletcher, Pete John Mansfield, Genna Loskutnikov, and Tom Feasby.
During his time on Coronation Street, viewers saw Scott’s character in a relationship with Toyah Battersby. After their romance fizzled out, he left Weatherfield for Ibiza.
In an interview with The Sun, Scott shared how the COVID-19 pandemic brought his career to a standstill, plunging him into a dark period.
He explained, “When the lockdown started in March 2020, my entire life was put on pause. Two major TV roles were canceled, along with my regular live music gigs and appearance work, leaving me without income and under serious financial pressure.
“Initially, like most people, I thought it would last only a few weeks. But when it stretched into months with no end in sight, things felt bleak.
“I was alone in my apartment, watching the news daily as the pandemic dragged on, which only made me more anxious. I couldn’t stop worrying about paying my bills, and my sleep suffered. To get some rest, I’d drink a bottle of wine most evenings.
“I turned to sleeping pills and, feeling low, tried antidepressants. Unfortunately, one side effect was a boosted appetite, leading me to comfort eat constantly.”
