How many times has Gail Platt been married in Coronation Street?
Gail, who has been a fixture on Coronation Street for fifty years, has incredibly walked down the aisle six times—marrying one of her husbands twice!
Here’s a rundown of all of Gail’s marriages and what became of her former partners.
Brian Tilsley
Gail’s first husband was Brian Tilsley (played by Christopher Quinten), with whom she shares two children, Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) and Sarah Louise Platt (Tina O’Brien). They were married from 1979 to 1988.
Throughout their marriage, frequent arguments about money strained their relationship. When things turned sour, Gail had an affair with Ian Latimer (Michael Loney), ultimately leading to their divorce.
Despite this, Gail and Brian remarried after Sarah’s birth, but their reconciliation was short-lived. In 1989, Brian’s life was tragically cut short when he was fatally stabbed outside a nightclub.
Martin Platt
Gail’s second husband was Martin Platt (played by Sean Wilson), who, despite being ten years younger, became her new love interest. They married in 1990.
For a decade, they lived together at No. 8, raising Nick, Sarah, and their son David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd).
However, their marriage came to an end in 2000 when Martin began an affair with Rebecca Hopkins (Jill Halfpenny).
Richard Hillman
Perhaps the most notorious of Gail’s husbands was her third, Richard Hillman (portrayed by Brian Capron).
They married in 2002, but within a year, Richard revealed his dark side, confessing to the murders of his ex-wife and their neighbor, Maxine Peacock (Tracy Shaw).
In a horrifying twist, Richard tried to kill Gail and her children by driving them all into a canal. While Gail and the kids escaped, Richard did not survive.
Joe McIntyre
In 2010, Gail wed Joe McIntyre (played by Reece Dinsdale), a kitchen fitter and the father of Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan).
Unfortunately, Joe was burdened with debt and attempted to fake his own death, which led to Gail being arrested on suspicion of murder.
She was eventually acquitted when it was revealed Joe had initially survived. However, he later tragically took his own life.
Michael Rodwell
In 2015, Gail appeared to finally find her happily-ever-after with Michael Rodwell (played by Les Dennis), but this marriage also met a tragic end.
Their union lasted just a year before Michael died of a heart attack, brought on by the actions of serial killer Pat Phelan (Connor McIntyre).
