A MAJOR character made a dramatic comeback in Coronation Street tonight to save his husband from a perilous situation.
Viewers of the ITV soap were stunned when Paul Foreman unexpectedly reappeared – weeks after his death from motor neurone disease.
In tonight’s episode, Paul’s friends and family gathered to honor him by sending his ashes into space, though his grieving husband, Billy Mayhew, was clearly struggling to cope.
As loved ones – joined by some emotional extras – gathered at the Rovers to watch Paul’s ashes drift up into the sky, Billy, visibly intoxicated, voiced his anger.
“This is just a spectacle, nothing to do with Paul,” he muttered bitterly.
Grabbing the remote, a visibly upset Billy declared, “It’s all a joke. He’s already gone, and I didn’t even get a chance to say goodbye. Now, I don’t even have his ashes.”
Bernie tried to comfort him, reminding Billy of the love he had shown Paul and urging him not to be too hard on himself.
However, her words backfired, prompting Billy to confess his indiscretion with Todd on the day of the funeral.
He publicly admitted, “Hear that, Todd? Some devoted husband. I tried to kiss Todd on the day of Paul’s funeral. That’s the kind of husband I am.”
Bernie was heartbroken, and Gemma turned on Todd as Billy stormed off, buying another bottle to drown his sorrow.
Bernie later visited Todd, where the two shared their concerns, realizing Billy had been drinking heavily and hadn’t been seen since he left.
Encouraged by Bernie to trust his instincts, Todd agreed they needed to search for him.
Meanwhile, Billy, ignoring calls from Todd, was drinking on the cold streets, listening to recordings of Paul’s voice until his phone died.
As he began losing consciousness in the freezing night, Paul made a surprising reappearance.
“Get up, you lazy arse,” Paul urged. “Come on, Billy. You can’t stay out here all night – you’ll freeze. Get up, Billy.”
Is this truly Paul, and will he be able to help Billy in time?
