Corrie Fans Confused as Writers Appear to ‘Abandon’ Ongoing Storyline

Coronation Street fans have been left puzzled after noticing a “missing” storyline in the show.

Known for bringing intense drama to the cobbles each episode on ITV, the soap has fans hooked with its gripping plots. However, some viewers were left bewildered, recalling a significant storyline from recent weeks that seems to have been dropped.

Recently, fans watched as Chesney Winter-Brown, played by Sam Aston, struggled to keep his family financially stable. The situation worsened when Dev Alahan, portrayed by Jimmi Harkishin, was forced to shut down his kebab shop temporarily due to a health inspector’s order.

While the closure may not severely impact Dev, it has been devastating for Chesney’s family. In heart-wrenching scenes, Chesney was shown in tears, overwhelmed by his financial troubles and the difficulty of keeping his family out of debt.

Fans sympathized with Chesney but were also reminded of another storyline involving him that had gone unaddressed. In an earlier episode, Chesney had confided in his wife, Gemma, about his dream of opening his own burger place, “ChesBurger.”

Taking to a Reddit forum for the soap, one fan recalled that Chesney once expressed a desire to make gourmet burgers to boost his family’s income. However, since that moment, his ambitions haven’t been mentioned again.

“It would be refreshing to see a different storyline for him and Gemma instead of the constant ‘We’re struggling, but we’ll get through’ theme,” the fan wrote. Other viewers were surprised to realize this storyline had been shelved, hoping writers might still explore Chesney’s dream.

One user replied, “Chesney was always entrepreneurial—remember his market stall selling dog collars? It’s disappointing they’ve gone down this route of constant financial hardship. It would be great to see him and Gemma catch a break.”

Another viewer expressed frustration on social media: “I think this was from a while ago, but I remember it too. Looks like another plot the writers have abandoned.”

A third fan questioned why the writers introduced Chesney’s dream if they didn’t intend to follow through: “It seems pointless to mention it without pursuing it. It would be a nice change from the endless financial struggle storyline.”

The soap has faced ongoing criticism from fans about the lack of character development. With Weatherfield full of high-stakes drama, viewers have urged the show’s creators to give residents of Coronation Street more drive and ambition.

Coronation Street airs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 8 p.m. on ITV1 and ITVX.
