EastEnders fans are hopeful that Sharon Watts will be back in Walford soon after Phil Mitchell’s comments on the BBC One soap
EastEnders’ Sharon could be poised for a return after disappearing from our screens late last year.
The character, portrayed by actress Letitia Dean, raised eyebrows when she made a brief reappearance in September following a hiatus, only to promptly vanish again. Since her sudden departure in October, Sharon has been absent from Walford.
There’s been scant mention of her and no concrete news on when or if she might return. Following her exit, her sister Vicki Fowler suggested that Sharon needed some time away after Zoe Slater’s deceit.
Zoe had falsely led Sharon to believe that her twins were the offspring of Sharon’s late partner Dennis Rickman, all in an attempt to extract money from her.
The revelation reportedly left Sharon devastated, prompting her to flee Walford and seek solace with best mate Michelle Fowler in Florida.
The most recent episode of the BBC soap may have finally provided clues about Sharon’s potential return. Whilst no fresh details were divulged about when we might see her next, a comment made by Phil Mitchell to his nephew Mark Fowler Jr, Michelle’s son, strongly hinted that Sharon’s absence might not be permanent.
Fans spotted the remark in Thursday’s episode, now streaming on BBC iPlayer, and immediately speculated that Sharon was set to return to Walford shortly. Discussing The Boxing Den, which Sharon co-owns with her former partner Phil, Phil proposed that Mark could oversee the establishment during Sharon’s absence.
He particularly mentioned “until she gets back” hinting that her return was inevitable, though no specific timeframe was provided. He told Mark: “You can start taking this place seriously and all. You can manage it until Sharon gets back.”
Mark embraced this opportunity, appreciative after Phil assisted him with the informant situation. Therefore Mark will be running the gym until Sharon’s comeback, but does Phil’s remark confirm that Sharon will indeed return at some stage amid concerns she had departed permanently?
Viewers certainly believed so with one response stating: “OMG SHARON IS RETURNING! !” This follows fans pleading for the character’s comeback, months after her final appearances.
