Cynthia Watros will mark her third anniversary as Nina Reeves at General Hospital in June. How much of Cynthia is Nina, and how much of Nina is Cynthia? This is a topic that the actress recently addressed.
Cynthia Watros Talks How Much Cynthia Is In Nina
Watros, who won a Daytime Emmy for her role as Annie Dutton on Guiding Light, won the hearts of soap lovers. She’s been doing the same thing as Nina Reeves on General Hospital for the past few years. Over Zoom, the actress recently took part in a GH Fantasy Events event with devoted fans. Watros was asked how much Cynthia is in Nina by one of the attendees.
Cynthia Watros responded to the query, “Really wonderful question.” “Because Nina isn’t Cynthia, she makes decisions that I wouldn’t make.” She’s a magazine executive [Crimson], therefore she exudes a certain attitude that I don’t recognize. She is a formidable opponent. I’m a powerful woman. That’s something I include into Nina.”
Nina has had to rely on that strength as she has faced the wrath of Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) loved ones, particularly his wife Carly (Laura Wright), who hold a grudge against Nina for keeping Sonny’s existence a secret while he was living a seemingly happier and peaceful life in Nixon Falls as an amnesiac named Mike.
The Importance of Laughter
“We have that strength in common,” says Cynthia Watros, who balances the heavier moments Nina endures with her own brand of funny. “What I’ve incorporated into Nina is that she has somewhat of a sense of humor. I have a sense of humor. Nina’s sense of humor is a lot like Cynthia’s sense of humor. She can get a joke in [during a heavy moment] and you might not even think it’s a joke.” But she does.
Watros says that despite the missteps that Nina has made, she feels that she’s a very good person. “She comes from a really good heart but she makes mistakes,” Watros acknowledges. “I can incorporate a lot of me into Nina, but she is different. She’s a lot more hurt than I am. She has a lot of unfinished childhood stuff in her.”
Cynthia Watros Talks Nina’s Pain
If Watros could only bring Nina one thing, it would be a kid. Nina gave birth to a tiny girl who grew up to be terrible, as viewers discovered. Nelle Benson (Chloe Lanier), who fell from a cliff and is now considered dead. Cynthia Watros pondered to the GH Fantasy Event attendees, “I don’t know whether you’ve ever had a pain where you lose something.” “The sorrow lingers, but you learn to accept it.” [Nina] is figuring out how to live with it. She’s figuring out how to move forward in her life. I’ve never experienced the true pain that Nina has, but I can feel it when I play her.”
