Former Home and Away star Tai Hara shares heartbreak as family home is flooded

Former Home and Away star Tai Hara has spoken out about his grief as a result of the floods that have engulfed northern New South Wales and Queensland, with his own home being flooded.

On Thursday, the actor posted a shot and video footage of Ballina, New South Wales, on Instagram, exposing the extent of the flooding.

“Devastated for my family and the Northern Rivers community,” he captioned the post. “So heartbreaking to see our family home inundated.”

He added: “With no clean water, short food supply and no electricity.. it’s been difficult to contact our parents. Feeling so useless here in Sydney.”

Tai went on to say that the only thing we can do is support organizations that are “in the midst of it,” offering critical assistance.

“If you can, please dig deep and donate to organizations like [the Australian Red Cross],” he wrote, before linking out to the website, which you can find here.

“Your generosity can help teams on the ground to provide urgent relief, including enabling volunteers and staff to help with evacuations, relief centers, and outreach service, and supporting people and communities to recover and rebuild.”

Fely Irvine, a former member of Hi-5, also encouraged their fans to tag any additional community organizations in the comments area.

In recent days, a slew of Australian celebrities has used their own social media profiles to raise awareness and funds for flood victims.

Comedian Celeste Barber stated that her husband Api Robin and a friend traveled to the northern rivers on jet skis to rescue stranded individuals.

“They went back out again today to do the same thing. They’ll go again tomorrow,” Celeste wrote alongside a photo of Api rescuing someone from a flooded home.

TV personality Deborah Hutton shared her thoughts for those impacted by the horror floods, writing: “My heart goes out to all those affected by this insane weather pattern and the record floods.”

Meanwhile, Dr. Chris Brown of Bondi Vet urged Australians to keep an eye out for displaced and injured wildlife.

“Keep in mind that just because people live their lives outside doesn’t mean they’re prepared to deal with harsh weather occurrences like this,” he explained.

Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky also commended ordinary Australians for their “heroic actions” in rescuing stranded flood victims throughout the disaster.

“Lots of love to everyone who has been affected and a big shout out to all who had a boat or jet ski and launched straight into rescue missions without hesitation. True heroes,” Chris wrote.
