Brits Pick Summer Bay as the No.1 TV Location They’d Love to Call Home

Tired of bills, grey skies, and the 9-to-5 grind? You’re not alone — a new survey reveals that one in five Brits would pack their bags and head straight for the golden sands of Home and Away‘s Summer Bay if they had the chance.

That’s right — the fictional Aussie paradise has officially been crowned the most desirable TV location to move to, beating out a host of iconic on-screen destinations.

In second place? The scenic hills of Emmerdale village, with 14% of Brits saying they’d happily trade their urban lives for a fresh start in the heart of Yorkshire’s countryside.

Not far behind is another Australian soap favourite — Erinsborough, home of Neighbours, where 12% of respondents said they’d love to settle down. Whether it’s the sunshine, the drama, or the friendly neighbourhood vibes, it seems Brits can’t resist a good soap-life escape.

The research, conducted by Compare My Move, asked 2,000 Brits to name their ultimate dream TV location. The results show just how powerful escapism can be in shaping where we’d rather be — even if it’s purely fictional.

Rounding out the top five are:

  • Aidensfield (Heartbeat) — beloved for its nostalgic village charm.
  • Springfield (The Simpsons) — the only cartoon world to make the list, proving some people really do dream in yellow!

Dave Sayce, Co-founder of Compare My Move, explained:

Sayce also offered some practical advice for those considering a real-life move:

Meanwhile, in Real Life…

While millions fantasize about beach houses and sunny escapes, real-world concerns remain front and centre. MPs are preparing to debate whether parents should be allowed to take their children out of school for holidays during term time.

The discussion was sparked by a petition from Fight School Fines, which highlighted the skyrocketing cost of family holidays. According to the group, prices jump by an average of 18% during school breaks, with some sunny destinations spiking by up to 28% per person.

For many families, those numbers turn dream holidays into financial nightmares.

Currently, UK law requires children aged 5 to 16 to attend school during term time. Even missing a single day can trigger a call from the school. However, exceptions exist: kids under 5 in reception aren’t bound by law, and schools can approve leave in “exceptional circumstances.”

So while relocating to Summer Bay might not be in the cards, a few changes in school holiday rules could bring families one step closer to enjoying a real escape — without the fines.
