Tonight’s Australian episode of Home and Away saw what is believed to be Chloe Anderson’s final appearance, as she said goodbye to Summer Bay to be with her mum in New Zealand.
The character, who first appears in Episode 7483, the eighth episode of the 2021 season, ends after just over a year and a half.
After fans noticed that actress Sam Barrett hadn’t been spotted filming at Palm Beach since March, we covered rumours of Chloe’s departure in our spoiler roundup for May. Chloe left Summer Bay for New Zealand in tonight’s episode after Tane (Ethan Browne) sent her away for her own protection.
Chloe (Sam Barrett) arrived in Summer Bay in the first week of 2021 after running across Nikau Parata (Kawakawa Fox-Reo), a childhood friend, while they were both vacationing in New Zealand.
Chloe was raised by her mother Mia (Anna Samson), who had a relationship with Ari, in the Parata whnau (Rob Kipa-Williams).
Ari was the only father figure that Chloe had ever known, and she was devastated when, at 9 years old, Mia suddenly moved them away claiming that Ari wanted nothing more to do with them.
What Chloe didn’t know at the time was that Ari had in fact been imprisoned for armed robbery, something she didn’t learn until her chance encounter with Nik over a decade later.
Regrettably, it was the same armed robbery that caused her to leave the bay. The men Ari stole the money from have tracked his family to Summer Bay more than ten years later, and even though Ari has long passed away, they still want their money back.
With Ari out of the picture, they turned to Tane and told him they expected the money back, with interest.
Tane had assumed that selling Summer Bay Fit would be the last of it when she needed to raise money to repay them. The strategy had changed, Tex told him, and now they wanted Tane to utilise the gym to launder money for them instead.
When Tane questioned what would occur if he refused to cooperate with their laundering scheme, Tex retorted that he would be endangering Chloe’s safety. Later, when a bunch of bikers showed up at their home on Saxon Avenue, Tane understood that they weren’t fooling around.
Tane (Ethan Browne) made the decision to send Chloe to New Zealand to be with Mia, who left in April, in order to keep her safe. He gave her the reassurance that because the Paratas had allies in New Zealand, the bikies couldn’t find her there.
Chloe recently started dating Theo (Matt Evans), so she wasn’t overly happy to be leaving the bay behind, especially because she had to tell him. However, she soon realised that leaving the bay was the best thing to do for her own protection.
As Chloe says goodbye, we take a look back at her eventful year and a half in Summer Bay.
He agreed to let her stay after an emotional reunion with Ari in the first week of 2021 on the condition that she let Mia know. Mia then went to Summer Bay herself to pick up Chloe.
However, after working out their problems, the two agreed to stay in Summer Bay together. Chloe first refused to go with Mia since she did not want to forgive her for lying about Ari.
Until Ryder Jackson (Lukas Radovich), the bartender at Salt, refused to serve Chloe without an ID, their feud intensified after Chloe won over Mackenzie (Emily Weir) with her own cocktail-making abilities and landed a job working alongside him.
Chloe and Bella (Courtney Miller), Nik’s girlfriend, began to argue as Chloe spent more time with Nik. However, Bella soon came to terms with the fact that the couple would need their own space and began to focus on Ryder.
With Marilyn (Emily Symons), the two engaged in another cocktail competition, which backfired when a buzzed Marilyn later fell over and suffered a head injury. Ryder made another error by offering a meat dish to vegetarian Maz as an apology when she was blaming Chloe for the accident.
While the four of them were spending time together, Nik and Bella found Chloe and Ryder’s continual fighting to be annoying. Although they resisted Nik and Bella’s attempts to make friends with one another, Ryder proposed that they pretend to get along in front of them.
Chloe saw a different side to Ryder during the ordeal, and the two ended up seeing each other in secret, before Nik discovered them kissing.
Despite Ari being in a relationship with Mac at the time, Chloe had been trying to arrange a date for Mia and Ari. Despite the fact that Ari ended his relationship with Mac after realising he was still in love with Mia and the kidnapping simply proved that he was still involved in illegal activity, Mia originally had no desire to interact with Ari. Mia, much to Chloe’s delight, realised where her heart truly belonged when Ari fell into a coma, and Tane persuaded her to give him another chance.
Ryder insisted on requesting Ari’s consent before asking Chloe out, and thought it would be nice to do so in Mori. He asked Nik to help him draught a speech. When Ryder was the victim of Nik’s practical joke and unwittingly revealed to Ari what a terrible person he was, Chloe wasn’t amused.
As Ryder and Chloe sought to gatecrash their romantic getaway as retaliation for Nik’s joke on Ryder, Bella and Nik quickly themselves themselves battling to get time alone once more.
Mac gave Ryder the job of firing Chloe since she was still hurt from her break-up with Ari and she was a daily reminder. Ryder was unable to do it, thus Mac was forced to fire Chloe by herself. She was shocked when Ryder later resigned in protest.
Chloe and Ryder made the decision to launch a Mexican food truck in order to make the most of their complementary skills. They encountered a roadblock when they realised the costs involved, but friends and family came together to support them. Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) was able to find them a truck, and after they were denied a business loan, Alf (Ray Meagher), Roo (Georgie Parker), and Marilyn gave them the money they needed to get started.
The pair initially set up in the caravan park, before gaining the permits to set up on the grass directly next to Salt, much to the annoyance of Mac.
Before Chloe took things too far by alleging she had seen a rat in Salt, which required Mac to close down for an inspection, the rivals tried to outdo one another.
Knowing the pain that Mia and Ari had experienced from previous miscarriages as well as the loss of their son and Chloe’s half-brother Kauri at just 10 days old, Chloe was worried when she found out that Mia was expecting a child. However, she stood by them when she saw how happy the news had made them. When Mia lost the baby in a vehicle accident only a few weeks later, she was heartbroken.
The van blew up because of a broken gas connector, thereby ending Chloe and Ryder’s business. Chloe, who was nearby, had her abdomen pierced by a piece of metal, but she healed quickly after surgery.
Ryder acknowledged that although they had third-party insurance in place, he had not yet taken care of insurance on the van, leaving them liable to Alf, Roo, and Marilyn.
Ryder resumed work at Salt once he and Mac had patched things up, and Chloe took a position at the diner. When the two realised they needed more money, they made the decision to launch a food delivery business. Chloe acknowledged later that she had not actually asked Leah (Ada Nicodemou) and Irene (Lynne McGranger) for permission to use the diner kitchen after hours when she had informed Ryder that they could use it to prepare the meal.
Leah and Justin (James Stewart) eventually caught them in the act, and after a tense conversation with Irene and Leah, it was decided that they could use the kitchen in exchange for a cut of the earnings.
Working two jobs, attending TAFE, and assisting at the board shop when Dean was away started to wear on Ryder. Ryder hadn’t slept in two days, so Chloe was annoyed when, as she waited to begin deliveries, he ignored his alarm.
Theo (Matt Evans) became Chloe’s new companion and “hero in shining armour,” helping her to send the orders on time.
The new kid on the block had Ryder feeling a little uneasy, and things only got worse when Chloe threw him a surprise 21st birthday party and instructed Theo to make sure he showed up. Theo wrapped a hood around Ryder’s head and stuffed him in the trunk of his car without asking him about his prior experience being kidnapped.
Chloe witnessed Ryder yelling at Theo once they’d arrived at the club, but failed to realise exactly why Ryder had found it traumatic. As Ryder drowned his sorrows, Chloe instead opted to spend the evening with Theo, with a drunken Ryder later picked up by Tane as security prepared to throw him out.
At his family’s birthday celebration, Ryder demanded to know whether Chloe had slept with him after learning that she had spent the rest of the night with Theo. Despite the fact that she hadn’t, the two realised their relationship wasn’t working and decided to part ways.
In the wake of the chemical attack at Salt, Chloe and Ryder found it difficult to continue working together and ultimately neglected client orders.
Ryder reluctantly teamed up with Theo in participating in online video challenges when a video taken of Ryder yelling at Theo during his “kidnap” went viral, which saw Ryder wipe out the remaining finances for his and Chloe’s business.

Chloe was shocked to the core when a stranger, Matthew (James Sweeny), turned up in Summer Bay claiming to be her father, but after getting confirmation from Mia that it was true, she ignored Mia’s advice to stay away and decided to hear him out.
Chloe kept seeing Matthew, and when he learned how tense things were between her and Ryder after Chloe had cancelled a number of orders, he offered Chloe the cash she needed to pay off her portion of the debt and get rid of Ryder from the company. Ryder grudgingly agreed to sign the documents, but he declined to accept payment for his share of the company.
After Chloe announced that she was going to the city to live with Matthew, after signing up to a business school, Mia was finally forced to tell her the truth about her father—Chloe’s conception was the result of Matthew sexually assaulting Mia when she was drunk at a party. Whilst his parents had gave her money to get an abortion, Mia left town, unable to go through with it.
Chloe instantly cut off all connections after feeling repulsed by the fact that she had been seduced by Matthew. Chloe was thrilled when Ari asked for her approval to ask Mia to marry him when they were having a private conversation in the backyard garden.
Matthew eventually went back to the bay, but Chloe became frightened and accidently killed Matthew by hitting him in the head with a brick during a fight with Mia outside the Parata residence.
From that moment on, Chloe’s life took a turn for the worse when Mia was pulled over by police while speeding in Matthew’s automobile to dispose of his body. In the end, Ari was found guilty of mistreating Chloe, and he was jailed while awaiting sentencing.
Only a few short weeks after being rushed to the hospital, Ari’s family discovered that he was suffering from an aggressive form of cancer and was rapidly losing his battle. Mia planned for them to get married in the hospital, with Chloe serving as the bridesmaid, because she was determined that Ari should pass away without any remorse.
Ari collapsed just after the ceremony, and died a few hours later.
Mia urged Bella to watch out for Chloe after the burial because she was the only person except the family to have discovered the truth about Matthew’s passing. Chloe spent an increasing amount of time with Bella since she couldn’t bear to watch Mia cry and her actions started to resemble an obsession.
Chloe disliked that Nik was spending time with Bella alone, and she even stole his late father’s taiaha to humiliate him.
Chloe ran into Theo as he was leaving town when Bella and Nik requested her to leave the farmhouse after realising her tricks.
As they spent some time away from the bay, Chloe and Theo became closer, and they ultimately went home and spent the night together.
Chloe then told Nik that she had only slept with Theo because she had been upset by his and Bella’s conduct, seizing the chance to play the pity card. Theo was devastated when Chloe afterwards pretended that everything had been a mistake when she was with Bella back where she wanted to be.
Mia’s idea to have them both leave Summer Bay infuriated Chloe since she felt it would be too difficult to stay. She refused to accompany her. Mia agreed to stay put, but it was obvious that she was only doing it to help Chloe, which only made their relationship worse.
Chloe eventually told a distraught Mia that she could no longer be around her since she felt suffocated by her presence and felt bad for asking her to stop.
Chloe and Tane arranged for Mia to travel to New Zealand in the hopes that spending time with Ari’s family would help Mia come to terms with her decision to leave town, which she later changed her mind about.
Chloe was looking forwards to a new chapter in her life until Nik accidentally knocked her journal off a table and a picture of Bella dropped out. Nik was shortly to discover the entire extent of Chloe’s duplicity. Nik read it with interest and broke down in tears as he revealed to Bella that they had been played for months.
At Ryder’s farewell party, despite his best efforts to appear courageous, things came to a head, and Nik confronted her in front of everyone. Theo followed Chloe outside even though he had been ignoring her while watching her games and adopted a compassionate stance.
Over the past few weeks, the friendships gradually recovered, and Chloe and Theo became more intimate.
Chloe was cheered by Theo’s singing to her over a private seaside picnic, and barely seven weeks ago, after a few bumps in the road when Leah worried about Chloe’s motives, the two finally started dating.
As Chloe opted to stay at Theo’s residence rather than return home, history started to repeat itself, and Justin and Leah eventually pointed out that they needed some space.
Tane suggested that Chloe assist with handling the gym’s accounting as she was at a loss for what to do. Leah was happy to give Chloe a crash course in handling the books.
But after realising that the gym had been paid for upfront, Chloe realised that there was no way Ari and Mia would have been able to afford it. Tane was eventually forced to admit that the money had come from the proceeds of the armed robbery Ari had committed over a decade ago.
Mia had secretly kept the money in storage, and when it came to wanting to try for adoption, she realised that owning the business could count in their favour. Although Ari was against it at first, they had the money laundered in order to secure the purchase.
Little did they realise that only weeks later, the people who Ari had robbed would arrive on the scene and change her life forever…
