EXCLUSIVE: Billy from Coronation Street may be getting ready for a shocking new romance after his husband Paul’s tragic passing.
Star of Coronation Street Daniel Brocklebank has hinted at Billy Mayhew’s possible new love interest.
After setting foot on the cobblestones for the first time in 2014, the adored character Billy has grown to become a strong favorite. He has also been involved in a good number of major plots, including murder and drug abuse.
As well as his hard-hitting storylines, Billy has also had several love interests on the soap, including Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) and husband Paul Foreman (Peter Ash).
Hosver, Billy has been left heartbroken recently following the death of husband Paul. As fans will recall, Paul was diagnosed with MND (motor neurone disease) last year.
Viewers of the ITV soap watched Paul start to struggle with his grip at first and he was eventually referred to a neurologist for tests. Sadly though, his speech and mobility deteriorated.
Fast forward a year and Paul was housebound, unable to leave his flat due to not being able to use his stairlift. This week though, Paul sadly died in emotional scenes aired on Monday (September 9).
Now, actor Daniel has shared whether he thinks love is on the cards for Billy, following the death of Paul. Speaking to Express and other outlets, Daniel spoke about what he hopes is in store for the character Billy in 2025. He said: “I’d really like some comedy that would be nice.
“Billy and old women, that would work well! Maybe like a knitting club, book club or maybe a choir?! But I think Billy and Sally Metcalfe would be an amusing couple. But yeah, a little bit of comedy next year would be nice.”
As for whether he could strike up another romance anytime soon, Daniel said: “Maybe, yeah.” And it seems actor Daniel has a certain request for soap bosses.
“I mean, if they decide to bring me in a 27-year-old Spanish window cleaner, it would be a stretch, but I would do my very best!” he quipped, while laughing.
As well as teasing a potential new cobbles lover, Daniel also hinted that things could take a dark turn for Billy – who has previously battled drug addiction, including heroin.
When asked if he could off to the rails again, Daniel said: “Hopefully not to the heroin extent! He did go off the rails a little bit, but hopefully not to shooting up in the aisle of a church extent like we saw it before.” The actor added: “Billy’s good in a crisis if it’s not his crisis.”
