Coronation Street Legend Geoff Hinsliff, Who Played Don Brennan, Dies at 87

Icon of Coronation Street Geoffrey Hinsliff has passed away.

At the age of 87, the seasoned actor, who portrayed Don Brennan on the ITV cobbles from 1987 to 1997, has gone away. Although his cause of death is yet unknown, reports indicate he passed away early this week.

ellow Corrie star Helen Worth, who plays Gail Platt, has paid tribute to the star. She said: “Geoff was a lovely, quiet man who will be sadly missed by us all. His partnership with Lynn Perry was something rather special and they gave the viewers huge pleasure for many years.”

Geoffrey’s character Don became a huge villain on Corrie, with several explosive storylines during his decade on the soap. When his on-off affair with Julie Dewhurst ended, he crashed his car in an attempt to take his life but survived, although his foot had to be amputated.

Don bought MVP Motors with his next partner Josie Clarke but she decided to leave him when the garage went bust. He became determined to take revenge on Mike.

He tried to kidnap Mike Baldwin’s wife Alma and drive the car into Weatherfield Canal – an ordeal both survived. However, his streak for surviving car crashes would finally come to an end.

He later tried to kill Mike by running him over with his own car, but he missed Mike and smashed the vehicle into a viaduct. he car went up in flames and killed Don.

After Don’s first wife Pat died in 1981, he enjoyed a relationship with Ivy (Lynn Perry). They were happy together for a few years but he left her in 1991 as she failed to make him a priority.

Don wasn’t the only character Geoff played on Corrie. He first appeared on the soap in 1963 and 1977 in other roles. He also appeared in six episodes of Doctor Who, had a role in the comedy Brass and guest-starred in Holby City in 2010.
