Coronation Street viewers learned two characters were covering something up likely linked to Joel Deering’s death on Monday night.
After Joel’s death was confirmed, detectives revealed he had been killed. Ahead of a weapon and a cause of death being revealed later this week, news of Joel’s death sent shockwaves around Weatherfield.
It quickly became clear that two characters might be involved in Joel’s death, as they discreetly discussed something they were hiding. Ronnie Bailey and his brother Ed Bailey seem to be entangled in the mystery.
Their suspicious behavior surfaced as soon as they learned Joel’s body had been discovered, hinting that they knew more than they were letting on. With Dee-Dee Bailey questioned about her ex’s murder, her father Ed and uncle Ronnie appeared anxious.
Though they seemed certain Dee-Dee wasn’t involved, their words suggested they might have a hand in it. At one point, Ed was overheard saying, “Murder… what are we gonna do?”
Ronnie told his brother they needed to “keep their mouths shut”. A panicked Ed quipped back: “It will catch up with us.” But Ronnie was eager to silence him saying: “You don’t tell a soul and neither do I.”
Ed was visibly distressed, finding it hard to hide whatever secret they were keeping. “They will find out,” he muttered anxiously, to which Ronnie firmly replied, “They won’t unless you tell them. Now pull yourself together before she comes back.”
Ronnie reminded Ed that the police officer lives upstairs, adding, “Stay nice and frosty… understood?” Though Ed reluctantly agreed to stay quiet, his nervous demeanor made it clear he was struggling with the weight of their secret.
The question remains—did Ronnie and Ed have a hand in Joel’s death? Or is there more to this story than meets the eye?
Perhaps this scene ruled out Dee-Dee as being the killer. Viewers also believe her recent behaviour means she can’t be the killer, and that someone else was.
Viewers noted that since Joel vanished she is one of the few people who tried to find him. She was sure that the police were wrong about him taking his own life, and that he could be on the run.
Why would Dee-Dee want Joel found if she was the one that killed him? One viewer pointed out: “Not Dee-Dee or she would have accepted the idea of suicide.” Other fans were sure it was Ed and Ronnie, with them writing: “Maybe her dad or uncle.” Another said: “Ronnie for how Joel treated his niece and all the other victims!” as a third added: “Bailey brother done it just watched tonight’s early.”
