In recent scenes of Coronation Street, Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) received heartbreaking news about her son Clayton Hibbs (Callum Harrison).
Last week, it became clear that Clayton had been trying to reach out to his mother, but Shona had no idea, as David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) had been intercepting his communications. David went so far as to delete emails from the prison and even disconnected their phone line to prevent Clayton from getting through.
When Clayton continued to try contacting them, David decided to visit him in prison. Clayton expressed genuine remorse for killing Kylie Platt and holding Shona hostage, but David refused to forgive him. Instead, he lied, telling Clayton that Shona wanted nothing to do with him and that he was dead to her, leaving Clayton devastated.
The next day, Shona was horrified when the police arrived at her door with distressing news: Clayton had attempted suicide in prison. They had tried to reach her by phone, but she was shocked to learn that the phone had been unplugged.
At the hospital, Shona was frantic, but David offered little support. As she asked him for empathy, he remained cold and eventually left, leaving Shona heartbroken. However, David’s own troubles were just beginning.
When Shona later called David to update him on Clayton’s condition, he revealed that he was at the police station because Max Turner (Paddy Bever) had confessed to the murder of Joel Deering (Calum Lill).
