Fans of Coronation Street are certain that two characters will make a double exit after becoming entangled in the “most talked about” plot line of the ITV soap opera.
Fans of Corrie believe they have deduced that two of the Street’s own are about to make two separate exits.
When the mysterious “self-improvement group” The Institute debuted earlier this year and Rowan Cunliffe (Emhrys Cooper) at the head captured Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) interest, the narrative developed. Leanne’s sister Toyah Habeeb (Georgia Taylor) and her other half Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) were worried about her choice because she signed up so quickly.
And now, Amy Barlow (Elle Mulvaney) has been lured in by the group’s charm, much to Nick and Toyah’s dismay. After a retreat last month, Amy’s been eyeing her late gran Deirdre’s inheritance as a potential investment for The Institute, much to the glee of Leanne and Rowan.
Charming as ever, Rowan convinced Amy to chuck her hefty £40k inheritance into the group’s pot.
This week, Amy hit up her granddad Ken (William Roache) about accessing the cash left by Deirdre. Ken was on the fence initially but came around eventually.
But Wednesday’s episode (August 28) saw a shocking twist when Amy bolted from a brutal “malware session” at the cult, where she was bombarded with insults while blindfolded, leaving her utterly shaken.
Corrie fans are on the edge of their seats as they predict a jailbird twist for Leanne and Rowan. After Ken’s blunder with the cash, Steve McDonald’s call to the cops has viewers buzzing on social media about Leanne’s potential downfall.
One fan vented on X: “I hope leanne gets caught and sent to prison never to be seen again. She’s doing my head in.” Another chimed in with frustration over the plot: “She’s never been as thick as she is now in her time in the programme it doesn’t make sense just like the stupid bloody storyline.”
The speculation is rife, with someone else predicting: “Rowan is gonna try and frame Leanne.” The cult storyline has split the audience, with some branding it Corrie’s “most talked about” drama. A viewer remarked on X: “This cult storyline is going round and round. Beyond irritating to watch now.”
While another countered: “Definitely one of soap’s most talked about storylines, never saw so many people have so many thoughts..”
Yet, not everyone is a critic; one person confessed: “Controversial opinion..I love the cult storyline.” And another fan admitted: “I’m enjoying it, but they need to rope in more characters.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
