Corrie’s Kit Actor Defends ‘Bad Guy’ Role Amid Backlash, Warns of Character’s ‘Issues’

Exclusive: Jacob Roberts, a cast member of Coronation Street, has supported Kit Green after the newcomer caused a lot of agitation on the cobbles since his arrival.

Jacob Roberts, who plays Kit Green on Coronation Street, has come to Kit Green’s defense and revealed the tragic tale behind his actions as a “bad guy”.

This year, Kit made his dramatic debut as Jane Hazlegrove’s long-lost son of Bernie, and he hasn’t stopped stirring up controversy. Bernie had to bid farewell to Christopher ‘Kit’ Green almost thirty years ago when she placed him for adoption. Years ago, Bernie was supposed to be back together, but he never showed.

Fast forward to recently, and she finally found her way back to him. Initially giving Bernie the cold shoulder, Kit eventually warmed up and made himself at home on the cobbles. Despite swearing he’d never let Bernie off the hook, he’s been bonding with his half-siblings, twins Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Paul (Peter Ash).

But there’s more to Kit than meets the eye. He played a key role in getting the vile Nathan Curtis (Christopher Harper) banged up for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) who wasn’t even dead. Kit sneakily planted Lauren’s DNA in Nathan’s van, setting him up.

He’s also buddied up with fellow cop Craig Tinker (Colson Smith). In a jaw-dropping turn of events last month, Kit blackmailed Craig’s mum Beth (Lisa George), leading to her dramatic exit from the street after 13 years. Actor Jacob has now opened up about his controversial role, shedding light on the sorrowful reasons behind Kit’s “bad guy” image.

Jacob talked to the Daily Star amongst others, teasing Kit’s latest antics: “Kit’s coming across as a bit of a bad guy, but being abandoned once is hard enough, but being abandoned twice!”

He revealed more about his character: “I think in life you can either feel sorry about yourself or really throw yourself into something and I think that’s what Kit has done, thrown himself right into his work that’s why he’s advanced in all these police training things.”

Jacob enthused about playing the baddie, sharing: “I love that he will get something on someone else to sort of argue his point, so that he has that protection.”

Delving deeper, Jacob disclosed: “He can be the nice guy, and then he’s not the nice guy and use that against someone else. I love playing that manipulator type of character.” Further, Jacob hinted at a sad backstory for Kit: “The stuff he says to Kirk, I think he might be a bit hurt from a woman. Or is it mummy issues after being abandoned twice?”
