EastEnders’ will see on couple call time on their romance in upcoming episodes of the BBC soap after they struggled to come to terms with devastating news

The weary mum was troubled by Jimmy’s unusual restlessness and lack of interest in feeding or sleeping, but her concerns were consistently brushed off by Peter and their health visitor.

Lauren spotted something amiss with Jimmy’s eyes and rushed him to the hospital. However, the receptionist ignored her desperate pleas until her midwife, Hanan (Isabel Adomakoh Young), intervened.

Peter accused Lauren of slipping back into her painkiller addiction, but she clarified that the pills she was taking were folic acid following the birth of their son, reports Belfast Live.

The doctor soon confirmed that Jimmy was severely sight-impaired, causing Peter to abruptly leave the consultation room and ask his father, Ian (Adam Woodyatt), to take him home.

Lauren was left alone to hear the doctor confirm that Jimmy had optic nerve chorioretinal coloboma, meaning he would be registered as severely sight-impaired.

Meanwhile, the doctor reassured a guilt-ridden Lauren that her prescribed methadone wouldn’t have caused Jimmy’s condition, but other drug use during pregnancy might have contributed to it.

In upcoming EastEnders episodes, Peter’s struggle with Jimmy’s diagnosis continues to cause friction between him and Lauren.

Lauren, overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from the Square, tries to involve Peter, but he rebuffs her once more.

In a surprising turn of events, rivals Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Cindy (Michelle Collins) unite to aid the couple, but it ends in heartbreak as Peter blames Lauren for Jimmy’s health woes.

After a heated argument, Lauren seeks comfort in alcohol, but as a recovering addict, she is turned away from The Vic and Harry’s Barn by Linda (Kellie Bright) and Gina (Francesca Henry).

Cindy intervenes, persuading her son to connect with his baby, and Peter finally concedes.

The following day, Peter turns to Cindy again when Lauren fails to return home after a night out. She later finds Peter at the café to explain, but he dismisses her explanation.

Instead, he heads to the hospital for Jimmy’s appointment alone, leaving Lauren behind to confide in Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton) about the diagnosis.

At the hospital, an interaction with another patient fills Peter with hope. However, it isn’t long before he and Lauren clash again when he learns she nearly fell off the wagon.

Peter ends their relationship and vows to fight for custody of their sons.

At No. 45, Kathy convinces Peter to reconcile with Lauren, and they manage to put their differences aside for a while.

However, Peter becomes worried when he realises that Lauren is keeping something from him.

Disturbed, he goes to The Vic to seek custody advice from Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff), but Honey overhears the conversation and tells Lauren.

Shortly after, Lauren visits No. 45 to officially break up with Peter.

After years of romantic entanglements, will the pair ever resolve their issues?
