Some EastEnders fans are convinced they have worked out George Knight’s real reason for marrying Elaine Peacock
EastEnders’ Elaine and George Knight, who tied the knot just last year, are once again at odds, with Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) stirring the pot.
However, some eagle-eyed fans believe they’ve sussed out George’s (Colin Salmon) hidden agenda concerning his marriage to Queen Vic’s landlady (Elaine Peacock), and it doesn’t bode well.
In this week’s instalments of the BBC soap, the Knights’ marital bliss was shattered when George was exposed for lying about spending Christmas with his ex-wife Sabrina.
Elaine’s anger escalated after she discovered George cosying up with his former spouse, Cindy, at The Albert, despite her previously voicing concerns over his past relationship.
Suspecting George of foul play, Elaine had slept with a man named Stephen, whom she met at the bar. However, she was soon filled with regret upon realising that George hadn’t been unfaithful, reports Belfast Live.
In the latest episode of EastEnders, available now on iPlayer and airing on Thursday (June 12) on BBC One, Elaine tried to resume normalcy as an unsuspecting George serenaded her, hoping to mend their fractured trust.
But her grandson, Johnny Carter (Charlie Suff), noticed that Elaine wasn’t her usual bubbly self. Unable to keep her secret any longer, Elaine confessed to her daughter, Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), who encouraged Elaine to come clean to George.
At The Queen Vic, Elaine struggles with her conscience and can no longer hide her secret. She confesses to her husband that she’s been unfaithful.
George is stunned to hear from Elaine about her indiscretion, hearing how she slept with another man the previous night.
Strangely enough, some EastEnders fans are encouraging Elaine to dump George, suspecting he’s more interested in a free roof over his head and proximity to his ex, Cindy, than love. Viewers think his latest shenanigans are part of a plot to stay close to Cindy.
A fan on Reddit theorised: “My theory is George is not interested in Elaine, he wants somewhere to stay with his kids and home/job it’s convenient, he also wants Cindy but knows he can’t play happy families with her or she will just cheat on him.”
They added emphatically, “So he’s worming his way back to Elaine because she is convenient kick his a** to the curb Elaine sling him out.”
Another came in with hopes for Elaine: “My hopes for Elaine…she doesn’t get suckered in by a toyboy like Elaine #1 did. It’s fine if she’s a cougar, but not a mug. We’ve seen that under the bravado, there’s a very sensitive woman, and she deserves someone who sees past the hair and makeup.”
A fellow viewer wondered, “What will George do for work if he breaks up with Elaine?”
Speculation is also brewing about a potential new romance for Elaine, with one fan asking, “What if Rocky comes back and she gets with him?”
