Pregnant Nicola Mitchell is set for distress after she goes into premature labour.

At the end of last year, on the BBC soap, businesswoman Nicola (played by Laura Doddington) discovered she was expecting a baby following a brief fling with George Knight (Colin Salmon).

She announced the surprise pregnancy to former boxer George during a chaotic time, as her ex-husband Teddy Mitchell (Roland Manookian) was imprisoned for murder, and their eldest son Harry (Elijah Holloway) battled a drug addiction..

Nicola and George later agreed to have a baby together, which was expected to arrive in June. However, their new daughter makes a surprise arrival next week.

On Monday (March 30), George excitedly prepares for the opening of his new business, Knight Fusion, as Harry notices that his mum, Nicola, appears distracted.

Nicola admits that she hasn’t felt the baby move, but doesn’t want to alarm George. Wasting no time, Harry and his girlfriend, Gina Knight (Francesca Henry), rush Nicola to the hospital, where tests confirm the baby is fine and Nicola can go home.

However, a confession from Harry leads Nicola into an argument with pregnant Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine), and she decides to go home and rest, only to suddenly feel unwell.

When guests begin to arrive for the opening of Knight Fusion, George is left worried when Harry shares his worries about Nicola, who is noticeably absent.

Harry arrives home to find his mum on the floor, overcome with pain, and she is rushed back to the hospital, where she shares her concerns about having a premature baby.

Nicola is soon faced with complications and is forced to undergo an emergency caesarean, and gives birth to a baby girl.

Sadly, due to flu symptoms and bleeding, a heartbroken and distraught Nicola is forced to remain isolated from her new baby daughter, who is taken to the neonatal intensive care unit to receive specialist care.

George arrives at the hospital and shares a tender moment with his new arrival, and is overcome with emotion as he watches her through an incubator in the NICU.
