The supermarket chain shared that they employ Richard Lazarus who has also worked on a string of hit TV shows AND created a top cop drama.

The writer is well known by the cast of EastEnders having worked on the soap for eight years.

Richard penned 55 episodes for the BBC One show from 2007.

His last episode was screened in February 2015 and included characters Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) Max Branning (Jake Wood) and Ian Beale (Adam Woodyatt) involved in the storyline.

But this isn’t his only big claim to fame.

The talented writer has also put pen to paper for several other big shows.

Richard was responsible for creating the 2013 cop drama, By Any Means.

The BBC series was about a police unit which operated outside of the law to beat the criminal elite at their own game.

Not only this, Richard has also written for CBBC show The Dumping Ground, and Scottish soap, River City.

But now the writer is working a second job at Asda.

Announcing the news on Instagram, the supermarket giant shared a pic of the writer in his uniform.

They wrote next to the snap: “Did you know he’s also a TV writer with some seriously impressive credits?

“He’s written 55 episodes of EastEnders (yes, 55!).

“He’s penned stories for CBBC’s hit drama The Dumping Ground.

“He’s worked on the Scottish soap River City.

“And he even co‑created the BBC One prime‑time cop drama By Any Means.

“From the shop floor to the small screen — Richard’s talent knows no bounds!”

Meanwhile, it comes as EastEnders is riding high this morning after winning a prestigious gong after rival soaps Coronation Street and Emmerdale were both snubbed.

The London-based soap took home the Best Soap and Continuing Drama award at last night’s Royal Television Society (RTS) Programme Awards.

EastEnders was up for a top gong alongside last year’s winners Casualty, and also Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.

Losing out on a prestigious RTS Award, which recognise the crème de la crème of British television, is a double blow for ITV.

This is because neither of their soaps even got a look in.

Both Coronation Street and Emmerdale were both snubbed at this year’s RTS Awards when the nominations were revealed earlier this month.

This is despite the huge success of their big Corriedale episode, which saw the two soaps merge together.
