Cameron Daddo’s appeal has stood the test of time, whether you fell in love with him as the host of the popular dating show Perfect Match or as a newfound fan after his tenure on Home And Away.
However, the Logie Award-winning actor credits his long-running career to his ultimate hidden weapon, model Alison Brahe, his wife of nearly 30 years and a well-known celebrity in her own right.
Back in the 1990s, they were the ideal Australian ‘It Couple,’ and their whirlwind romance reads like something out of a rom-com.
At 1991, they had their first tragic encounter while riding an escalator in a shopping mall.
The two, who were both up-and-coming stars at the time, understood exactly who the other was and the chemistry was instantaneous.
They were eventually introduced by a mutual acquaintance, and the rest, as they say, is history!
Cameron proposed after only three months of dating, and the couple married in 1992.
“He was just very easygoing, very charming, very goofy. Like, he had stupid dad jokes before he even became a dad.
“I kind of felt like he was the one for me before I met him,” Alison has reflected of her husband.
They moved to Los Angeles shortly after being married so Cameron could continue his acting career.
Because of the arduous nature of the entertainment industry, money was often scarce.
“It got very tense for a while on several occasions,” the father-of-three told the No Filter podcast in 2017.
Then something would happen, and you’d forget there was a time when we only had $100 in the bank because everything was fine today.”
The pair, who have been married for 30 years, is now living happily in Sydney’s Northern Beaches with their three children, Lotus, 25, Bodhi, 15, and River, 21.
Despite their seemingly idyllic lives, the A-list pair have had their share of difficulties over the years.
Cameron stated in early 2019 that he was unfaithful to his wife while working in the United States in 1994.
“I was the one who left the marriage,” the Aussie actor said, revealing when it came to overcoming his transgressions, “honesty was the best policy”.
After seeking marriage counseling, the couple was able to rebuild their connection and grow even closer as a couple.
Cameron says he’s all about romantic gestures when it comes to keeping the spark alive. “I find it quite enticing when someone asks you a question and truly listens,” he remarked.
Returning to the beginning: In 1992, actor Cameron Daddo married model Alison. Alison reflected on the day, saying, “A whirl of Summer heat, excitement, and wild love.”
“The priest got your name wrong and I nearly married ‘David Daddo’. But you were the right guy all along, through it all, the highs and lows, the mistakes and lesson.”
Their paths first crossed on an escalator at a Sydney shopping mall, like something out of a romantic comedy. Cameron had a strong attraction to the Dolly cover model, and one of their common acquaintances eventually arranged for them to meet.
A whirlwind romance: The superstar pair got engaged after only three months of dating. Cameron was 25 years old, and Alison was 21 years old.
Dreaming of California: Shortly after their wedding, the couple moved to Los Angeles in the intention of advancing their careers.
Cameron and Alison attend the film premiere of Good Boy! in Los Angeles in 2003 with their daughters River and Lotus.
“Way back in the 90s, we thought we were pretty clever taking a picture of ourselves,” Cameron, 55, mused alongside this throwback with his wife.
Despite their seemingly idyllic lives, the celebrity pair has had their share of difficulties over the years.
The actor admitted to being unfaithful to his wife early in their marriage while he was in the US in a touching essay for parenting website The Father Hood, but they were able to work it out.
“I was the one that left the marriage. When I acted out in that way, I didn’t really want to be there. There were reasons how I got into that place.
“And a lot of it was alcohol and being alone, feeling really lonely and being literally oceans away from my partner,” Cameron explained.
The couple went to marriage counseling and were able to save their marriage.
“You don’t get to 28 years of marriage without a hell of a lot of work and struggles – and a fair chunk of pain and tears.
“But what you do get is a massive amount of learning – you learn forgiveness and there’s an enormous amount of self-growth. We just didn’t want anyone thinking that their marriage or relationship sucked in comparison to ours,” the ’90s Aussie cover girl has admitted.
“We’ve lived in multiple countries, we’ve had kids, and we’ve been separated and we’ve been bankrupt,” Alison, 50, has said.
The ultimate collaboration: Separate Bathrooms And Other Handy Marriage Tips, a candid podcast about their married lives, was debuted in 2019.
Their three children, Lotus, 25, and Bodhi, 15, and son River, 21, are their best achievements.
After years in Los Angeles, the family has relocated to Sydney’s Northern Beaches, which was excellent for Cameron’s role as Evan Slater on Home And Away.
Despite the fact that lockdowns were difficult for all Australian families, Cameron and Alison were grateful for the extra time with their children.
Cameron and Alison still make time for the goofy moments, like when she asked him to play “Instagram boyfriend” and shoot a snapshot of her attire before a TV appearance, despite the fact that they’re older and wiser than when they first met.
You’d think the couple would be weary of each other after three decades together, but Cameron stated on Instagram that he still despises being apart from his wife. “It’s only been one day away from you [and] we’ve done many months together over the last 30 years… it’s never easy,” he admitted.
In December 2021, the couple commemorated their 30th wedding anniversary by replicating one of their wedding images, but with a lot less glitz. Alison and Cameron appear to be as in love as ever after all this time.
Regular date evenings and excursions in their own Australian backyard, with plenty of beach trips, keep the romance alive.
Cameron is now due to go on Dancing With The Stars: All Stars, and we’re sure Alison will be rooting for him from home as he competes for the mirror ball trophy.
