Former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo addresses run in with drugs and alcohol in new memoir

Johnny Ruffo is preparing to share additional details about his personal life in a new, upcoming biography, just days after delivering a positive health update during his recent guest appearance on the season finale of Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars.

The 34-year-old heartthrob is giving fans an inside look into his personal life as he prepares to write a new biography on his rags-to-riches journey and heartbreaking fight with brain cancer.

Ruffo’s memoir, No Finish Line: The Johnny Ruffo Story, will chronicle his meteoric ascent to popularity, from his humble beginnings as a Balcatta concreter to becoming one of the country’s most beloved sweethearts.

While the memoir is expected to focus on Ruffo’s fight with brain cancer, Echo Publishing has also indicated that the book will also address Ruffo’s drug and alcohol scandal.

Images of Ruffo in his fancy Four Seasons Hotel room in Sydney were taken and published in Woman’s Day magazine in 2014 when he was just 24 years old and making headlines after being caught up in a cocaine scandal.

The actor was purportedly seen sitting at a table, cutting a white powdery material into clean lines with what seemed to be a credit card in the now-deleted shot.

While Ruffo has declined to comment on the photos, one of his “friends” told the magazine that “there was so much cocaine there — it was simply awful.”

Despite this, Ruffo went on to spend two more successful years on Home and Away as the beloved larrikin Chris Harrington, opting to focus on his promising singing career.

But, just three years after causing a stir with his drug scandal, Ruffo was hit with yet another setback when he was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer.

The actor recalled the horrific event in an interview with Who magazine’s podcast in 2018, adding that his fiancée saved his life by taking him to the hospital after he complained of a bad migraine.

Ruffo’s brain cancer reappeared after a time of remission.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that my brain cancer has returned; nonetheless, I will dig deep and defeat this crap sickness again,” he stated in a mournful Instagram post in 2020.

Ruffo has continued to update his social media with regular updates and is optimistic about the end of his quest.

His autobiography will be published in September of this year.
