Another dramatic year awaits.

Home and Away has confirmed its first death of 2026, marking the beginning of a dramatic new year in Summer Bay. The season finale ended with a devastating train crash, leaving multiple lives hanging in the balance for the last two months. But did your favourite make it out alive?

Before the huge cliffhanger, various characters were gleefully heading to the Off the Rails music festival in Broken Hill where Remi Carter’s new artist Eddie Shepherd was performing.

Also aboard the party train were Sonny Baldwin, Justin Morgan, Dana Matheson, Mackenzie Booth, Abigail Fowler, Jo Langham and Lacey Miller. The gang were then introduced to Holden Dwyer and his charming friend Isaac, who wasted no time flirting with all the ladies.

Things took an expected turn when the train reached a tunnel that was being graffitied by some teens. The kids left their bikes on the tracks as they fled, causing the train to derail and leaving the passengers’ fates unknown.

Today’s Australian-paced season premiere picked up from the huge cliffhanger, as the passengers slowly regained their consciousness and assessed their injuries.

Nurse Dana discovered newcomer Isaac laying next to her, and when she checked his pulse it was revealed that he had died. She was later forced to relay the sad news to Holden who was enquiring about his friend’s whereabouts.

Though Isaac was the first fatality of the year, the other crash victims aren’t in the clear yet, as Jo, Justin and Sonny were all left in a bad way. Justin was rushed to hospital after suffering internal bleeding, while terrified Sonny admitted his couldn’t feel his legs.

Elsewhere, after hearing Jo was trapped in the wreckage, Tane Parata and Levi Fowler rushed to her aid, ignoring warnings from emergency services. Levi determined that Jo was suffering from crush syndrome, but he was prevented from reentering the train after he left to get medical supplies.

Jo’s fate was left in the hands of Tane and Eddie, who tried to get her out of the carriage. But despite popping the question to Jo earlier on in the journey, Eddie chose to save himself and bolted from the scene.

Will Tane be able to rescue Jo on his own? Or could the pair become the latest casualties?
