One character won’t survive next week’s horror train crash.
2025 has been quite a big year for Home and Away fans. Not only did Lynne McGranger’s character Irene Roberts say goodbye to Summer Bay following her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, but Theo Poulos (Matt Evans) was the victim of a fatal hit-and-run, and Bree Cameron (Juliet Godwin) left after securing a new job working for Doctors Without Borders.
It’s since been revealed that another character will soon be leaving the show, as someone will die in the upcoming season finale — which Channel 7 has said will feature “one of the most shocking disasters in the show’s 38-year history”. A dramatic promo has teased that a horror train crash will leave multiple lives in the balance, and not everyone will survive.
The big question mark that hangs in the balance is which character will get the chop?
Who dies in the Home and Away season finale?
Home and Away is shot several months in advance, and filming for next year’s season is currently underway.
Eagle-eyed fans who have seen the cast shooting scenes have reported that almost everyone will return to screens after the train crash.
However, Stephen Madsen, who plays musician Eddie Shepherd, hasn’t been seen filming the show in Palm Beach in recent months.

Stephen only made his debut on the Channel 7 soap last month, so while his character’s death would be dramatic, it wouldn’t necessarily be the most shocking.
Meanwhile, others have speculated that the train driver might be the one who dies, as he also hasn’t been spotted filming the show.
‘This will hit hard’
Viewers will have to wait until the finale airs on Wednesday, November 19, to see what happens; however, many fans have already taken to social media to share their thoughts.
“It’s not such a big deal if Eddie doesn’t make it; he has only just arrived, not a great impact, and as far as people saying the train driver, no impact there,” one person wrote.
“I had a feeling it might be Eddie who dies from the train crash, this will hit hard for Jo, I think,” another said, referring to his ex Jo Langham, played by Maddison Brown.
“Can’t see it being another main character not long after Theo, my guess is Eddie,” someone else commented.
A different user remarked: “Why can’t they have a season finale without someone dying?”.
Channel 7 has teased that the finale will feature “one of the most shocking disasters in the show’s 38-year history”. Which is huge, considering the bizarre things that have happened on the show, including people being held hostage after joining a cult, kidnappings, a telepathic twins storyline, shark attacks and more.
Who do you think will die in the Home and Away finale?
Fans baffled over Home and Away finale plot hole
Death aside, many Home and Away viewers have been left confused about one detail in the trailer for the season finale: When did Summer Bay get a train?
Where did this train come from?” one viewer questioned. “Summer Bay doesn’t have a train line?”
“There’s never been a train in Summer Bay!” another remarked.
While a third said they hadn’t witnessed a single train in the last few years of watching the show.
Some were “very surprised” that the show had gone down the route of a train crash, with one person saying they thought it would have been “an explosion or fire for the season finale” – two tried and tested options over the years.
Another person joked that the show was “spicing things up” with the train crash idea.
