Home and Away star Matt Evans gets caught in a rip while surfing in Bronte and is rushed to hospital following the ordeal: ‘Be safe out there’

Home and Away star Matt Evans got caught in a rip while surfing at Bronte beach on Sunday and suffered a horror injury to his hand.

The soap star, 27, was rushed to hospital after being ‘slammed up against the rocks’ when he came off his board trying to catch a large wave.

He appeared well despite the bloody injury, as the singer shared several pictures to his Instagram Stories of the ordeal.

The first showed him moments after being rescued, sporting a big grin as he showed off several bleeding grazes and cuts.

‘The sea was angry that day my friend,’ read the caption which was written by Matt’s friend singer-songwriter Jaime Robbie Reyne.

‘It’s all smiles in these stories, but… I just got caught in a rip at Bronte with a massive set,’ he explained as he showed off the scabs covering his healing hand.

‘Turned out a very lucky guy because it could have been much, much worse. I got slammed up against the rocks and I was very lucky.

‘This is a reminder to be safe out there, kids, in the water, because mother nature can get you.’

Matt also shared images of himself going to the emergency wing at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney with Jaime (pictured) to get his wounds taken care of

Matt joined Home and Away in late 2021 – despite having no previous acting experience – after appearing on The Voice back in 2020.

Speaking about his new acting role to The Daily Telegraph, Matt told the publication that he was ‘learning on the job’.

‘I went in there with a clean slate and I am learning so much day-by-day,’ he said.

‘My first day in the studio, I kind of had a bit of a freak out because it’s just a lot of people around and I didn’t know what I was doing. I’m just trying to learn on the job.’
