Inside Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s wild marriage

Inside Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher’s wild marriage amid split: Home & Away star once revealed she slept with comic while he was dressed as BORAT and insisted it was ‘love at first sight’

The couple met in 2002 at a party in Isla’s native Australia, immediately hitting it off.

Isla would later tell Marie Claire that meeting Sacha was like ‘winning the lottery’. She said their relationship was built on ‘a shared sense of humor and a willingness to be married’.

Cohen told The New York Times in October 2020: ‘I knew instantly. I don’t know if she did. It’s taken her about 20 years to know.’

Just two years later the pair got engaged in 2004.

The pair welcomed their first daughter, Olivia, on October 17, 2007.

They also welcomed their second daughter, Elula, in summer 2010, and their first son, Montgomery, on March 17, 2015.

Olive is now 16, Elula is 13, and Montgomery is nine.

The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in Paris in March 2010.

Isla revealed that she had converted to Judaism to honor her then-fiancé prior to getting married.

‘I will definitely have a Jewish wedding just to be with Sacha. I would do anything — move into any religion — to be united in marriage with him,’ she told the Evening Standard.

Although the couple have taken pride in their privacy, Isla revealed some naughty bedroom secrets about the pair when appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2016.

‘Has your husband Sacha ever done a character in bed? And if so, which one?’ she was cheekily asked by fellow guest Ewan McGregor.

The former soap star burst into laughter and admitted they had made love while he was dressed as Borat. ‘He’s had a handlebar moustache and he’s been Borat, or he’s had Bruno’s blonde hair,’ she continued.

‘Sacha’s been in characters visually, but I’ve never heard [Borat’s catchphrase] “woo woo wee woo”,’ she added. Cohen achieved global fame in 2006 when he starred in the satirical mockumentary Borat, playing a journalist from Kazakhstan learning about life in America.

The Confessions of a Shopaholic star, who relocated to America early in her career, spoke about the family’s move back to Australia after admitting that ‘juggling’ a family in LA wasn’t easy.

‘There’s not really a culture of bringing your kids to dinner parties or to restaurants past 6pm. I tend to entertain at home because I want to be with my family – it’s easier to put your kids to bed and have a wine with friends,’ she said.

Isla and Sacha, along with their children, moved to Sydney in 2020, and then later relocated to Western Australia.

The pair announced they had quietly separated last year by sharing a bizarre snap posing in tennis outfits on Friday. Their statement read: ‘After a long tennis match lasting over 20 years, we are finally putting our racquets down.

‘In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy and have been quietly working through this change ‘We forever share in our devotion and love for our children We sincerely appreciate your respecting our family’s wish for privacy.’

Sacha, 52, and Isla, 48, were married for 14 years before they split in 2023.

In July 2023, the pair’s marriage appeared stronger than ever during a trip to Greece with Isla sharing a snap of herself sharing a passionate kiss with her husband.

The announcement comes after Rebel Wilson made shock claims about her experience with ‘a**hole’ comedian Sacha in her new memoir, Rebel Rising.

Rebel played Borat star Sacha’s on-screen girlfriend in the 2016 comedy The Brothers Grimsby and made a series of allegations about her uncomfortable experience during shooting.

She alleged that on the set of the Louis Leterrier-directed film, Sacha would ask her to strip off for scenes despite her ‘no nudity’ rule, in a string of claims which Sacha has strenuously denied and says are contradicted by evidence.

In a memoir passage obtained by People Magazine, she shockingly alleged that Sacha requested she ‘stick her finger up his a**’ because he thought it would make a funny scene in the film and claimed ‘it felt like [he] had sexually harassed me’.

She alleged that she felt ‘completed disrespected, which led to me treating myself with even more disrespect by eating in an extremely unhealthy way’.

Sacha has strongly denied ever mistreating Rebel or pressuring her to be naked in the film.

A spokesperson for Sacha said: ‘While we appreciate the importance of speaking out, these claims are directly contradicted by extensive detailed evidence, including contemporaneous documents, film footage and eyewitness accounts from those present before, during and after the production of The Brothers Grimsby.’
