Hollywood star Isla Fisher is widely known for her fiery red hair.
However, the Confessions of a Shopaholic actress has acknowledged that she wasn’t always a fan of her signature tresses.
The 45-year-old spoke to Marie Claire Australia about how, as she grew older, she learned to love her unusual feature.
“When I was going through adolescence, having red hair was something that made me feel a little different to people – I wouldn’t say I naturally embraced that difference, I sort of wanted to blend in,” Isla told the magazine.
It wasn’t until she was an adult that the actress came to appreciate the role for which she is now best known.
“In my journey, and when I got older, I really realized it made me feel unique,” she said.
Natural red hair is the most unusual hair color, according to Healthline, with only one to two percent of the population having it.
Isla talked about how this learning helped her connect with her character Maddie in Back to the Outback, an incredibly rare Australian taipan snake with venom that can kill people in a single bite.
Maddie is insecure about people being scared of her in the film, which Isla could relate to.
“She understands that being a [rare] venomous snake is perfectly normal and that she shouldn’t be criticized because of it.” Isla described her character’s journey as “a great concept.”
“Beauty on the inside means someone has the ability to love and care for others, and while the narrative contains a lot of basic lessons (such as putting your differences aside and understanding that home is where the heart is), it ultimately helps us realize that it’s what’s on the inside that counts.”
