ITV Coronation Street Confirms Legend’s Return with Another Icon Expected to Follow

Fans of Coronation Street have been teased with the thrilling news of a longtime soap veteran making a comeback, and there are rumors that another Weatherfield legend may be close behind them.

Since her portrayal in 2000, Sue Cleaver’s Eileen Grimshaw has captured the hearts of fans with her strong demeanor as the head of the Grimshaw household.

However, earlier this year, Eileen waved goodbye to the cobbles for sunnier skies in Thailand after her son Jason Grimshaw (played by Ryan Thomas) suffered a severe back injury in a moped mishap.

Sue Cleaver’s departure from the show coincided with her new ventures, including a starring role in the UK tour of Sister Act: The Musical and joining the panel of ITV’s Loose Women.

But in a twist revealed in the episode aired on September 18, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley) informed Todd (Gareth Pierce) that Jason’s recovery had progressed quicker than anticipated, paving the way for Eileen’s much-anticipated return.

The prospect of Eileen’s reappearance has sent fans into a frenzy, with speculation mounting over whether Jason will also make a comeback.

Social media is abuzz, with one fan posting: “Jason mention! Hope he comes back with his mum.” Another exclaimed: “It’s been so long!”

During her hiatus, Sue discussed her future on Corrie with Lorraine, leaving fans questioning if she had bid farewell to the soap for good.

Sue gleefully confirmed her return to the soap, saying: “Yes absolutely. I have a few months grace to do this job and then I will be back in there as soon as I finish.”

This isn’t new territory for Eileen’s portrayal by Sue who previously took a break in 2022 to appear in I’m A Celebrity.

In related news, Jason Grimshaw, portrayed by Ryan Thomas, has been noticeably absent since his departure in 2016, having been a fixture on the show since 2000 and widely recognized for his turbulent love life.
