Former EastEnders and Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp issued a strange demand to a Gogglebox producer when they attempted to use the toilet on his property
Television host Roman Kemphas shared how his father Martin Kemp asked a member of the production team on Celebrity Gogglebox to sit down on the toilet seat when he asked to use the loo.
Discussing what it was like behind the scenes on Celebrity Gogglebox with singer Tom Grennan on their podcast ‘You About?’ Roman talked about the rules former EastEnders and Spandau Ballet star Martin had brought into place.
He said that at first they used to shoot the show in his own flat before moving to a show home and then onto Martin’s personal land.
Once on one of the properties, they took the decision to use a small annexe that featured the facilities required to shoot the show because Martin had banned them from the house. This included a toilet in case either Martin or Roman needed it.
However, things took a turn for the strange when one of the crew members on the Channel 4 show realised they needed to use a toilet and had to venture inside the banned area.
Roman recalled: “We’re watching the show and all of a sudden one of the producers knocks on the door and literally pokes his head around the corner of the door because he knew he’s not allowed to come in. Pokes his head around the door and goes ‘Mr Kemp, Martin, is there any chance I could use your toilet?’
“And my dad was like ‘Of course mate don’t be silly. Of course, come in. Never have to ask to use the toilet’. Points to him where the toilet is, ten feet away.”
It was then that Roman says his father decided to make a show of dominance by giving the producer exact instructions on whether he wanted him to urinate standing up or sitting down.
He said: “Blokes goes over there and only guys will understand this, to have another guy say this to you is like power play. My dad looks at this bloke and goes ‘Yeah, course mate, use the toilet’.
“Second he got to the door he looked at him and goes ‘Oh mate. Sit down though.’ To tell another bloke to have a sit down wee, that’s power. I’ve never seen that in my life.”
This isn’t the first time Roman has discussed filming Celebrity Gogglebox as he touched on what happened when they first started filming it in his home.
He remembered how one neighbour got very annoyed. He said: “We shot it at my flat for a long time in the beginning. I used to have a neighbour downstairs…that person would try and delay filming to another level, just hated the fact that, it was my property, but hated the fact that stuff was going on.
