Neighbours’ boss Ben Frow shares an update on future of Home & Away

WHEN Channel 5 boss Ben Frow announced that they would no longer fund Neighbours, devastated fans were concerned he’d axed fellow Aussie soap Home & Away.

But the media manager has now shared an update on the second soap.

And he’s confirmed that it’s here to stay.

“No,” he responded when asked if Home & Away was on the chopping block. It will be interesting to see how we use it as we advance, in my opinion.”

“There might be another place to put it in the Channel 5 spectrum,” he continued in the interview with Radio Times.

However, because of the life-of-series agreement, nothing will change until the producers decide to halt production.
Because Channel 5 provided the majority of the financing for production, Neighbours was cancelled.

The soap had to end because its creators, FremantleMedia, were unable to find a new sponsor.

Ben declared: “I could use the money for other purposes, so that’s what I did.

“The money from Neighbours would be better spent on UK programming.

Fans were upset by the news, but now time is running out before the long-running soap opera’s finale on July 29.

Home and Away is a television series that debuted three years after Neighbours and centres on the loves and lives of those who live in Summer Bay, a made-up seaside community in New South Wales.

It was initially motivated by author Alan Bateman’s visit to the area’s Kangaroo Point, when he observed people protesting the building of a foster home and opposing the thought of foster children from the city residing in the area.

Similar to Neighbours, the soap opera is broadcast in more than 80 nations and has produced a long list of celebrities, including Chris Hemsworth, Isla Fisher, and Heath Ledger.
