Neighbours have aired an emotional exit for Britney Barnes in the show’s latest episode.
Montana Cox’s character, Britney, was killed in the tragic storm that rocked Erinsborough on the day of Kyle Canning and Roxy Willis’ wedding.
The local residents were seen in grief following the devastation at the Flamingo Bar in Wednesday’s broadcast on Channel 5, which featured a seven-day time jump.
The name of the deceased was not immediately known, but Ramsay Street residents were afterward seen attending a Britney Spears memorial service.
After a telegraph pole toppled into the Flamingo Bar during the storm, endangering the guests at Kyle and Roxy’s wedding reception, Leo Tanaka (Tim Kano) discovered Britney dead among the wreckage.
Leo and Britney’s infant daughter Abigail survived the incident, but Leo is now a single father due to his grief.
Britney initially appeared on Neighbours in September of last year, when Montana was cast as a guest star.
Her death has been hinted at since December when a Neighbours advertisement showed the memorial ceremony for the first time.
In the meantime, Terese Willis (Rebekah Elmaloglou) confided in Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) about how she blamed herself for Britney’s death in Wednesday’s episode.
Terese had received an alarm shortly before the disaster to leave the Flamingo Bar as a precaution due to the storm. However, she became preoccupied for a little while, and her arrival at the scene was delayed.
Terese grew enraged when she saw her love interest Glen Donnelly (Richard Huggett) having another passionate encounter with Sharon Canning (Natasha Herbert) outside Lassiters, and she became enraged.
Terese informed Chloe as she surveyed the debris outside the Flamingo Bar, “If only I’d disregarded Glen and Sharon and come right here, I would have had time to get everyone out.”
Chloe replied: “We’re talking about a minute of time at the most. Even if you had come straight here, by the time you’d rounded everyone up, it still would have been too late.”
Terese disagreed: “Chloe, our family and friends were hurt and Britney died because I was jealous.”
As a result of the fallout, Terese felt it was time to put her love for Glen aside and focus on her estranged husband Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis), who is recovering from injuries sustained during the storm.
Terese arrived at Paul’s penthouse after he was released from the hospital and declared that she would be taking care of him. Is there any hope for their future together?
