When Curtis hugged his father goodbye in the Oct. 3 episode of General Hospital, that was indeed Robert Gossett’s last scene as Marshall Ashford. At least, for the time being! Soap Opera Digest is reporting that sources say the exit isn’t actually meant to be a permanent one, so he could be back one day.
Gossett, known for his roles on The Closer and Major Crimes, joined General Hospital in October 2021 as a mysterious figure originally credited as “Stalker” for lurking around Port Charles, watching Curtis and his family. Eventually, he revealed himself as Marshall Ashford, shocking Curtis, who had believed his father was dead all along.
During his years on the soap, Marshall explored a relationship with Epiphany and repaired his relationship with Curtis and the family. He revealed that he had disappeared because he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia but eventually learned the doctor had been wrong. More recently, he found himself growing closer to his late wife’s sister, Stella, but both were hesitant to act on their feelings.
Gossett’s portrayal earned him two Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2023 and 2024, and his debut year on General Hospital earned him a Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Performer in 2022.
In the storyline, Curtis encouraged his father to join a tour with renowned jazz musician Wynton Marsalis, assuring him he could handle Aurora and The Savoy in his absence. However, once the tour wraps up, there’s a chance Marshall could return to Port Charles, bringing Gossett back to our screens. Stay tuned for casting updates!
