Toadie reveals Neighbours ending

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know that iconic Australian soap, Neighbours, will come to an end on July 28.

And with anticipation steadily building, actor Ryan Moloney has been able to give the fans a little bit of extra gossip about the ending they’ve been waiting to see.

Speaking to radio’s Fitzy and Wippa this morning, Ryan – who has played Jarrod Vincenzo ‘Toadie’ Rebecchi since 1995 – let slip who will have the last word in the finale.

“I’m not allowed to but I’m going to,” he said when he was asked live on air.

“Is it you?” Wippa asked him.

“No, it’s not me,” he said. “It’s Susan and Karl.”

Karl and Susan Kennedy have been recurring characters on Neighbours since the show’s inception in 1994.

It makes sense that they would get to deliver the series’ last line given how many episodes, stories, and influences they have had.

But before the last words, which Ryan also hinted at this morning, there will be a lot more to see in the finale.

When asked about the performers who would be appearing as guests, Ryan said: “There are so many; I believe there are over 60 in the final scene.

“I needed to jot down a quick cheat sheet. Margot Robbie, Delta Goodrem, Jesse Spencer, Kim Valentine, Carla Bonner, and Peter O’Brien are among the cast members that he mentioned.

“And then there’s Kylie and Jason, you know. He continued, referring to the return of some of the show’s biggest stars, including Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, and Kylie Minogue.

When it was announced earlier this year that Neighbours will be cancelled after 37 years on broadcast, the production team immediately began planning a grand farewell.

However, it was still a difficult moment for all the actors who either began their careers on the show or contributed for a long time.

The hardest aspect, according to Ryan, “[was] absolutely trying to take up every last second that you could get, and yet try to deliver your lines at the same time without getting emotional.”

“We’re actually saying goodbye to people as their jobs finish up all the way through.”
