For love to blossom between actors, the Home and Away set has always been a breeding ground.
And Rebecca Breeds (Ruby) and Luke Mitchell were one of the most unforgettable romances between the show’s co-stars that spilled over into real life (Romeo).
The golden couple from Summer Bay, now based in the US, marked a big milestone this week, and Rebecca went to celebrate the occasion on Instagram.
“To commemorate their eighth wedding anniversary, Rebecca penned: “8 years. Sharing a loved-up selfie of the pair together. You’re the best thing I’ve ever seen happen to me. Through the wild as well as beyond. “‘
Fans flocked to the comments to tell the happy couple their good wishes.
“Because of you guys, I believe in love” gushed one follower, while another added: “Yayyy!! Congratulations on 8 Years of Men.
Rebecca and Luke met first at a mutual friend’s housewarming party on May 23, 2009 and “clicked instantly.”
For his Home and Away role, Queensland native Luke had just moved to Sydney. Rebecca, already a favorite on the show, had no idea the man she described as “this blond vision” would turn out to be the newest star of Summer Bay.
“I felt like I knew him already. It was absolutely a feeling, she told New Idea, that we had shared another life together. “After the party, I knew immediately that what I had with Luke was that soulmate thing.”
Their love was meant to be, and in 2013, at a picturesque wedding in NSW’s Kangaroo Valley Bush Retreat, the pair tied the knot.
In front of 70 of their closest friends and relatives, they exchanged heartfelt vows they had written themselves.
“I will be guided by love, not fear, Luke promised. I will take care of you, support you, honor you, listen to you, inspire you, and love you forever completely.”
A tearful Rebecca answered, obviously moved, “I will be your greatest fan and encouragement, holding your hand and cheering you on through it all.”
I’m trying to look at life on the bright side. As the head of our family and our household, I will trust and honour you. Anything else is going to be secondary to our relationship. I will travel with you into the wilds of this planet and I will be your safe place of love, into and beyond the next world.
Rebecca and Luke have made the move overseas to pursue the Hollywood dream ever since leaving the sandy shores of Summer Bay. Rebecca is soon to be seen in Clarice’s big new CBS show, while Luke has just scored a gig in The Republic of Sarah’s new CW series.
