Tammin Sursok, a former star of Home and Away, has generated controversy after complaining about receiving a traffic ticket.
The 38-year-old said on Instagram that she was fined $300 and lost demerit points in Victoria for driving 58 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
Tammin thought the penalty was “excessive,” because she didn’t want to “slam” on her brakes while exiting a 70km/h motorway into a 50km/h zone.
“FYI I like rules. Happy to pay fines. I think it’s important to drive safely,” she wrote.
Tammin, though, called on her fans to “discuss without being rude” after receiving “aggressive” messages in her inbox.
“I love to hear people’s opinions. Opening up conversation is important… I don’t take any of this personally, I drive like a granny,” she said.
“But the conversation at hand is – should we have some leniency when coming off highways as you have to slow down, [it] takes a beat.”
The Pretty Little Things star then suggested that speeding fines in school zones be increased, before asking her fans what they thought was a “fair” penalty.
Tammin’s misfortune comes after she told TV WEEK that she doesn’t see herself returning to Home and Away anytime soon.
“I definitely know 100 percent that I would never go back to a long-term character. The work is too intense and it’s continuous. It’s hard to spend time with family when you’re working that many hours,” she said in early April.
“I prefer shorter six-week roles or a guest spot but you know, never say never.”
Tammin, who played Dani Sutherland in Summer Bay as a teenager, has now joined the cast of Neighbours.
