Home and Away Fans Call for Major Changes to the Show

Home and Away viewers have a surprising request about one of the characters – and who they could replace.
Home and Away fans have fallen in love with temporary guest star Peter Phelps who plays Gary, Cash and Felicity’s (RIP) foster dad. With Gary being an all-round good dude and calm presence in the Bay, fans are now calling for Peter Phelps to be a permanent cast member, maybe because he’s the only one speaking any sense right now.

Gary stepped in as Cash and Felicity’s foster dad when they lost their parents, and although he had a rocky relationship with Felicity, they mended things before her wedding to Tane and he continued to be a support system for her and Cash from afar. After mass speculation about whether he’d appear for Felicity’s final scenes, fans were very happy to see him back for Felicity’s funeral.

Unfortunately, the sad scenes turned heartless straight after the funeral (because no one has happy endings in Summer Bay) with Cash deciding to brutally dump Eden and break off their engagement, in a move fans labelled ‘cruel’.

In Tuesday night’s episode, Gary paid a visit to Eden after Cash continued to be a little b**ch to her, to reassure her that it wasn’t over yet and fight Cash’s case for him. (I mean, no offence Eden, love yourself, I know the hot cop is grieving but he’s being a d**k).

Before he did plead Cash’s case, Daddy Gary also laid down the law with Cash telling him to grow up and face Eden in person (in nicer terms, but you know, the message was there still). We love a supportive king!

Cash went to go see Eden to get his car keys back, but was as cold as ever, which led Gary to go tell Eden to not make things “easy” for Cash and to fight for him.

Home and Away fans are begging for Gary to be made a permanent fixture on the show

On social media, fans have begged Home and Away to consider making Gary a main character in the Bay.

“Can Gary be permanent please he would be such a great part of Home and Away, love his character,” one fan said. “Make Gary permanent!!” another fan demanded, while another said, “he would make the Bay so much better.”

“Can Gary replace Harper please 😂,” one fan joked, while another called Gary an ‘angel’. “Gary permanent please, he is like an angel ❤️,” they commented.

“Are you listening Home and Away? Make Gary permanent!” another fan said with someone else saying, “I second this.”

Home and Away fans’ wishes may just come true because a Facebook fan page has posted some photos of Peter Phelps filming again, with Gary appearing in scenes with Cash that were filmed August 20 this year, meaning we’ll see him pop up again in 2025.

“I’m assuming this is Gary coming back for the wedding,” one fan speculated, holding onto hope Cash and Eden will resolve things. “I hope this means Cash’s wedding will go ahead,” another person agreed.

“Oh maybe to sort out Felicity’s share of Salt,” another fan guessed.

Fans slam Cash’s heartless approach to Eden

Cash is very sad right now, and look, he’s got every right to be: he’s orphaned and lost his only sibling. That would be enough to throw anyone into the deepest depression and that’s where our boy is.

Fans, however, aren’t too happy with how Cash has been treating ex-fiancée Eden in amongst all of this mess, after he broke up with her because, well, everyone he loves dies or leaves.

With Gary being on Eden’s case to not give up on Cash, fans aren’t so sure that Eden should forgive his behaviour.

“Can’t believe how cold and heartless he’s being, it actually saddens me!” one person commented, though another fan went into bat for Cash, saying, “His whole family is dead. Cold and heartless is criticising him for not coping with that.”

“Felicity would not be happy with her brother,” one fan pointed out, with another begging, “We want Caden back! 🥹🙏🏻”

Anyway, it looks like Cash is set to flee the Bay for a while, which may be exactly what he needs. But, Home and Away, can we still keep Gary?
