Ari Parata’s final scenes from Home and Away will play on UK televisions next week, as he chooses to die on his own terms.
Ari will be rushed to hospital in upcoming episodes on Channel 5, where he is now awaiting trial after making a false confession to Matthew Montgomery’s murder.
Ari is originally diagnosed with appendicitis, but the surgeons discover that the situation is considerably more serious once he’s taken down for surgery.
Ari and his family are informed that he has appendix cancer and tumors in his belly.
Ari, unfortunately, has no cure. His only viable choice for therapy is a risky surgical operation that would buy him some time.
Ari tells his loved ones that he doesn’t want the procedure in next week’s episodes.
Mia, Tane, and Nikau are all having trouble processing the news, but Ari explains that he doesn’t want to spend his final days in prison and in a hospital bed.
Ari, on the other hand, would rather die surrounded by the people he cares about.
Mia is still distraught, but she replies by rescheduling her wedding to Ari, which was supposed to take place at the prison.
In front of their family in the hospital, Mia and Ari exchange poignant, spontaneous vows.
Unfortunately, Ari’s health begins to deteriorate after the wedding.
Doctor Logan Bennett examines Ari and informs the Parata family that it may be time to prepare for the worst.
Ari sings himself a Mori song before taking his final breath, surrounded by his loved ones.
When these moments aired in Australia last month, Ari’s actor, Rob Kipa-Williams, addressed his departure from the show.
“Thank you to the fans, for all the love and incredible amounts of messages and support,” he wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to everyone who makes the wheels turn, including the cast, crew, camera, directors, production, writing, makeup, art department, and everyone else in between,” he said.
“This Iconic Ozzie TV show took risks. I’m honored to have co-created Māori cultural storylines, and will forever be proud of those scenes that made it to screen.. it was true teamwork. My hope is that this opens the door for more diversity.
“Thank you for everything Ariki Wiremu Parata, you taught me a lot. I’m gonna miss you.”
