Home and Away star James Stewart excited to get messy at the Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest

Forget Oscar winners Oppenheimer or Poor Things, Home and Away’s James Stewart learned the art of acting poorly on his Thursday flight to Perth — watching The Disaster Artist ahead of starring at the Channel 7 Mandurah Crab Fest this weekend.

An official ambassador alongside Matthew and Grace Hayden, the Summer Bay mainstay is “super stoked” to make his first appearance at the event.

“I come from Queensland and I’m not a great prawn guy, but I love fish and have only just started eating crab,” he said.

Inspired by a friend who grew up crabbing on Mandurah’s fruitful sand banks, the beach-dweller welcomes invitations to get his hands dirty in more ways than one.

“I’m excited to see how some people just rip the crab apart and get messy with it. I think I’d be the messy kind,” he admitted.

While some would argue he’s a catch himself, Stewart admits he lacks Matthew Hayden’s confidence with the rod, but not with the palate.

“Fisherman, maybe not. Oysters and white wine? Yes,” he joked.

With a 50-60 hour work week, skills in the kitchen have alluded the father who believes preparing simple and healthy meals with his daughter presents an opportunity to stay connected at home.

“Make it half an hour because that conversation in the kitchen is the best conversation of the day,” he said.

Previous travel with family to our State has yielded an appreciation for WA’s natural wonders, though the seasoned beach-goer is still salty about one thing.

“Coming from the Gold Coast, your water’s a bit cold,” he admitted. “I know that’s a wimpy thing to say.”

Lauding our coastal gems in Dunsborough, Rottnest Island and Smith’s Beach, Stewart’s laid-back lifestyle had him dreaming of an early retirement far from home.

“If you had the money, you’d just stay forever,” he said.

For those who can’t catch him in Mandurah, Stewart will soon swap his thongs for dancing shoes in the upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.

Revealing he’d always wanted to be a “triple threat”, the actor will strut his stuff alongside Ben Cousins and Ant Middleton in the coming months.
