Neighbours’ Alan Fletcher makes tearful appearance on This Morning as soap’s finale approaches

Neighbours will come to an end later in the summer

Actor Alan Fletcher flew to the UK and made a rare appearance on This Morning as Neighbours neared its finale. When discussing the show’s final few weeks with Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, Alan, who has played Karl Kennedy in the Australian soap opera for close to 30 years, was clearly upset.

Alan commented, “Oh man, that was a journey wasn’t it,” after watching a montage produced by This Morning on Monday, July 11. He then acknowledged that the footage had caused him to cry. “It’s amazing to be here, I’ve got a little tear going on here now,” he continued.

When asked if it brought back pleasant memories, Alison said, “28 years on the show, I’m not shocked!” before posing the following query. However, the presenter became aware that their visitor was visibly upset and went out to grip his knee while yelling, “Oh you’re really sobbing, really becoming emotional.”

Alan retorted, “Well, it does bring back all that beautiful emotion you had when you really shot the sequences. The soap star remembered recollections of working with his on-screen wife, played by Jackie Woodburne, saying, “Jackie and I you know we’ve busted up and got back together, we’ve busted up and got back together, and every time the tears are very real, they feel real, and the moment seems real.”

Following his debut, some Channel 5 soap opera viewers took to social media to express their opinions about Alan. Someone remarked: “I was unfamiliar with “Dr. Karl Kennedy.” Omg.”

One admirer responded to remarks about Alan’s appearance by saying, “Seeing some of the rude and stupid comments in regards to Alan Fletcher’s appearance, he has alopecia #thismorning.” After fans expressed concern for his health back in May, Alan addressed his hair loss.

Another simply remarked, “On this morning the legend that is Dr. Karl Kennedy aka the extremely brilliant Alan Fletcher.”

Earlier this year, Channel 5 confirmed that Neighbours would be coming to an end in 2022. At the time, the show’s Twitter account confirmed the news: “We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9,000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June.”
