Georgie Stone, star of Neighbours, will present a very personal short documentary at the Tribeca Film Festival this summer in New York City.
The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone is a documentary that follows the 21-year-old from childhood to adulthood, advocating for the agency of transgender children and adolescents in determining their own identity decisions.
Georgie is the youngest person in Australia to be treated with hormone blockers, and she successfully lobbied for a change in the law.
The documentary’s director Maya Newell said in a statement (via if.com): “Georgie has so much to teach the world about identity, the expansive spectrum of gender, determination, how to love, listen and the importance of accepting each other for who we are.”
Stone herself helped promote the news on Instagram earlier in the week, writing to her followers: “Really excited to announce that a documentary I have produced – The Dreamlife of Georgie Stone – is going to Premiere at Tribeca Film Festival in New York this June!!!! And later in the year, @dreamlifefilm will launch on @netflix too.
“I’m really proud of this film (we’ve been filming it for years!!!) – thank you so much @mayadonna @closerproductions @unquietcollective and everyone involved in making this a reality [heart emoji].”
Alan Fletcher, a member of the Neighbours ensemble who recently released his own single, praised the actress, saying, “This is great Georgie.” “Congratulations.”
