Iconic Aussie soaps Home and Away and Neighbours have long been the breeding ground for some seriously major talent with the likes of Kylie Minogue, Chris Hemsworth, Isabel Lucas, and Melissa George all starting out on one of these famed shows.
But for some Aussie actors, they managed to grace both Neighbours’ Erinsborough and Home and Away’s Summer Bay with their presence over the years.
These renowned Australian soap operas, which have hosted everyone from Jodi Gordon to Guy Pearce, seem to be a rite of passage for some of the country’s most famous actors. Continue scrolling to see which actors have landed parts in both Home and Away and Neighbours.
Harley Bonner
Harley Bonner starred as Josh Willis on Neighbours from 2013 to 2016, a show that made his mother Carla Bonner famous. Fans delighted when it was announced in 2021 that the actor would be joining Home and Away.
JR Reyne
Think JR Reyne, the newest cast member of Home and Away, looks familiar? You may now quit scratching your brain over where you’ve seen him before! From 2002 to 2004, JR portrayed Taj Coppin on Neighbours, where he was a memorable love interest for Delta Goodrem’s character Nina Tucker.
Johnny Ruffo
When Johnny Ruffo made his movie debut as Chris Harrington in 2013, he quickly established himself as Summer Bay’s resident loveable larrikin. He said his goodbyes to the Bay three years later, but not to television in general…
In June 2020, Ten announced that Johnny would be a guest star on Neighbours. He remarked of recording his sequences at the time, “You can’t mess about.” “[Neighbours and Home and Away] are just Australian royalty. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I now consider myself fortunate to have appeared on both shows.”
Guy Pearce
Guy Pearce is one of the most well-known faces to frequent both the sandy shores of Summer Bay and the Ramsay Street cul de sac. Guy initially appeared in Neighbours in 1986 as Mike Young. Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) and Charlene Mitchell were Mike’s friends (Kylie Minogue). Guy played David Croft in Home And Away in 1991. The guy was on-screen for around six weeks and had a romance with Sophie, played by Rebekah Elmalogou.
Morley, Andrew
Andrew joined the Summer Bay residents in 2013 as Spencer Harrington and stayed on the show for two years before leaving. After an event that impaired his memory, the actor returned to Neighbours in April 2016 as ‘John Doe.’ Andrew’s character Jack realized he was a priest after regaining his identity.
Kip Gamblin
Kip Gamblin won the TV WEEK Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent in 2004 for his role as Scott Hunter on Home and Away for nearly three years till 2005. Moving on to Ramsay Street, the actor played Brad Willis, a father-of-five in Neighbours.
Rebekah Elmaloglou
On Neighbours, actress Rebekah Elmaloglou plays Brad’s (Kip Gamblin) ex-wife Terese. Rebekah is best known to soap fans for her role as Sophie Simpson, an adolescent tearaway on Home And Away. She appeared on H&A for two seasons, from 1990 to 1993, and again from 2002 to 2005.
Bernard Curry
Bernard Curry played Luke Handley in Neighbours in 1995. Luke had a brief affair with Libby Kennedy (Kym Valentine) while on Ramsay Street! Bernard joined the cast of Home And Away as Hugo Austin in 2009, more than a decade later, and captured Martha’s heart (Jodi Gordon).
Jodi Gordon
On Home and Away, Jodi Gordon played Martha, a Summer Bay resident and cherished granddaughter of Alf (Ray Meagher), for five years. Martha and Hugo departed the bay in 2010. Jodi later went on to portray Elly Conway on Neighbours, which she joined in 2016. Her character marries Mark Brennan in one of her most famous tales (Scott McGregor).
Ashleigh Brewer
From 2009 until 2014, Ashleigh played Kate Ramsay until she was killed off. Kate was shot shortly after accepting her boyfriend Mark’s proposal. Yes, this is the same Mark as the one listed above – he just can’t seem to get a break! Ash went home to join Home And Away in 2018 after a time on The Bold and the Beautiful in the United States. Chelsea, Colby’s love interest, was played by her (Tim Franklin)
Bobby Morley
In 2006, Bobby Morley was cast in Home And Away. He was nominated for the TV WEEK Most Popular New Male Talent Award for his portrayal of Summer Bay youngster Drew Curtis. Bobby was cast as Aidan Foster in Neighbours in 2011, and he stayed in the role for two years.
Rhiannon Fish
Rhiannon Fish had a brief role as Lisa Jeffries in Neighbours before her Summer Bay days. During her tenure on Home And Away, Rhiannon became a household name. April Scott was played by the actress for three years until she left in 2013.
Lewis, Lincoln
Lincoln appeared in a short guest appearance on Neighbours in 2011 as a Queensland marine researcher who swept Kate (Ashleigh Brewer) off her feet while on vacation. When he was cast as Geoff Campbell on Home and Away in 2007, the actor created a name for himself on the small screen.
Christie Hayes
Christie played Kirsty Sutherland on-screen from 2000 to 2005, and then again from 2008 to 2009. She was well-known for her role in one of the most contentious plots, in which she intentionally began a relationship with Kane, a guy who had sexually raped her sister.
Christie was cast in a new role on Neighbours in 2019, according to reports.
“I’ve always played girls that are a little bit mischievous,” she explained. “She comes in hot, and there’s going to be a lot of drama ahead, but it all stems from a place of love.”
Jackson Gallagher
From 2013 through 2016, Jackson Gallagher starred as troubled adolescent Josh Barrett on Home and Away. In the 2015 season finale, Josh shot and killed Charlotte King (Erika Heynatz) before fleeing town to avoid serving 20 years in prison.
Later, Jackson went to Ramsay Street to portray a love interest for Bea (Bonnie Anderson), who was involved in a love triangle with Levi (Richie Morris).
