Although actress Sam Frost announced last month that she will be quitting her role as Jasmine Delaney on Home and Away, another star of the show has hinted at a comeback.
Lynne McGranger, who plays Irene Roberts on Home and Away, has told Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa (quotes via Now To Love) that Sam might be able to return to the soap, after all, adding that she has been vaccinated against COVID-19.
“She spoke to me, can I just say the door is not closed, it’s very much an open door,” Lynne said. “Sam needed to be with her family and they are down in Melbourne. There was some issues of course with getting vaccinated but I’m here to tell you she is double vaccinated now, possibly boosted as well.
“She needed to be with her family, but the door is definitely open for her to come back. The way that she is currently gone from the Bay, there is plenty of room for her to come back and I’m sure, that as we speak, she is in negotiations with the producers.”
Sam’s decision to leave the show, according to Lynne, was mostly motivated by her desire to spend more time with her family in Melbourne.
“She’s never made a secret of the fact that she does struggle with her anxiety, that is out there and is a great thing to make public,” Lynne said.
“But she needed to be with her family and the producers being clever and smart and certainly compassionate, said ‘You go and do what you need to do Sam, the door is open for you to come back and we’d love you to come back’.”
Sam’s temporary departure from the soap was first announced in November before it was confirmed in December that she would be departing on a longer-term basis. Her departure was assumed to have nothing to do with the latest vaccine debates.
“We support and appreciate Sam’s choice to leave Home and Away,” a Channel 7 representative told Digital Spy at the time. Sam departs with our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for the future.”
Sam has not yet spoken about Lynne’s claims.
