Logies 2022: Home and Away wins Most Popular Drama

The long-running drama won the audience-voted award.

At the 62nd TV Week Logies on the Gold Coast, Seven’s Home and Away took home the Logie Award for Most Popular Drama.

Ray Meagher, a Gold Logie contender and Home and Away actor, said it was fantastic to see attendees at the awards following a two-year absence.

Just to see old mates and all that, it’s great that the show’s back on the road,” he said.

Also vying for the coveted Gold Logie are the Nine Network’s Karl Stefanovic and the ABC’s Tom Gleeson, who famously won three years ago after launching a campaign ridiculing the award as well as his competition.

Standing back to back on the red carpet, Gleeson joked that he was taller than his rival, while Stefanovic replied that he had deeper pockets.

They’re also up against Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Melissa Leong and Sonia Kruger.

Due to COVID-19, the awards were put on hold for two years. Since they were last presented, a few changes have been made.

In memory of the late presenter, who passed away in October, the Silver Logie for most popular presenter has been renamed the Bert Newton Award.

Old Moonface, as he was affectionately known, hosted the Logies 19 times and won the coveted Gold Logie in 1979, 1981, 1982 and 1984.

A new Silver Logie will also be awarded for the most popular actor in an international program.
