After a tough couple of years, the Summer Bay stars enjoyed a hard-earned Logie win – and emotions spilled over.
Two of the cast members of Home and Away have recounted how emotions spilt over backstage on what was already a memorable night for the cast when the long-running soap won the Most Popular Award at the Logie Awards.
After the big night, Matt Evans, who was nominated for Most Popular New Talent, and his co-star Emily Weir joined The Morning Show from the Gold Coast to discuss how Summer Bay veteran Ray Meagher had encouraged the cast after their triumph.

After host Larry Emdur inquired if the event was similar to a school formal, the couple dressed in matching pink outfits, Evans clutching the coveted silver Logie and stating how much he had enjoyed attending his first Logies.
“It was a big bad scary night. No, I really enjoyed it, it was so much fun and we all got to hang out as friends, it was the best,” he said.
“It was awesome, and speaking of formals, we walked the red carpet together so it felt like a little formal date,” Weir said.
“We were a little power couple last night,” added Evans.
Weir then explained how co-star and Gold Logie nominee Ray Meagher had made an emotional address to the cast following their win.
“Ray is so great … he’s such a legend and it was just so great, we had a little power chat after we won the Logie … we all went backstage to do some press after, and he sort of pulled us all together and gave us a pep talk.
“The last couple of years have been really full-on with COVID and getting through [the issues it presented] the pep talk just made us all very, very emotional,” she said.
“And when Ray gets a little bit emotional and teary, everyone cries,” added Evans.
“You can’t [not cry], it’s like a tap – if he waters up, you’re bawling,” said Weir.
Despite not winning the Most Popular New Talent category, Evans expressed his delight at having been a part of the Logies, despite joining the cast of Home and Away in 2021.
“I was ecstatic to be nominated because it’s been such a roller coaster of a year.” As the job progresses, I’m still learning and growing.
“All I have to do now is keep doing what I’m doing, but it was fantastic.” “And for the show as a whole to win is really a credit to how hard everyone works,” Evans said.
