After Channel 5 pulled out of supporting the show and no other UK broadcaster could be found, Neighbours is regretfully coming to an end after 37 years.
The story team has already plotted the ending, and the soap’s boss has mentioned bringing back some classic characters for the finale.
Tim Kano, who plays Leo Tanaka, has revealed his hopes for the final episodes in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy.
Tim requested Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan’s return, which was somewhat unsurprising given that ‘Especially for You’ was played during Leo’s brother David’s wedding to Aaron Brennan.
“Jason and Kylie, I’d love to see them come back as they were so iconic to the show,” he said. “I’m also a huge fan of Guy Pearce and would love to see him return.
“Mainly, for the fans who have been so loyal and been with us since day dot and watched over three decades – I’d love for them to have that excitement of the old, iconic characters that drew them into the show initially – I’d love for them to have that closure of them coming back.”
When asked how feasible this all is, Tim described it as a “wheels in motion situation” in which everyone is trying to figure out what’s doable, and predicted that “fans will be pretty satisfied with the way it all ends up.”
Of course, it’s a very bittersweet situation, with Tim understandably saying that he was “devastated” at first, but now it’s more like “a real mixture of emotion, but we have to be grateful that we had what we had and now all my best friends are from the show, and they’ll be friends for life.”
One legendary character, none other than Harold Bishop himself, has already returned, so that’s one guy we don’t have to worry about.
