CORONATION STREET’S Hope Stape has been at the centre of some huge storylines over the past couple of years but her biggest one yet could see her diagnosed with an illness she has had before, leaving her parents heartbroken.
Hope (Isabella Flanagan) has left her mother Fiz Brown (Jennie McAlpine) and de facto father Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) on the verge of losing their minds on Coronation Street due to her worrisome behavior. She’s battled to settle down and go on the right track, from starting fires to staging a runaway plot and causing her brother’s miscarriage.
However, when her parents discuss their daughter in upcoming scenes on the ITV soap, it appears they may be ready to learn an alarming truth about what’s actually behind her unpredictable and dangerous behavior.
The drama begins in the weeknight serial drama’s next installments, when Fiz receives wonderful news regarding her kid.
Following Hope’s recommendation to see a therapist after setting fire to Alina Pop’s (Ruxandra Porojnicu) apartment, which resulted in the loss of her baby, it appears that the sessions have helped the teenager comprehend why she did what she did was wrong.
The therapist explains to the schoolgirl’s mother that they believe her hazardous behavior is due to her being naughty rather than anything nefarious.
Fiz is upbeat when she tells Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman), but Tyrone’s grandmother isn’t persuaded there isn’t anything else going on.
Fiz should err on the side of caution, she believes, because she has witnessed how much damage and heartbreak the young cobblestone inhabitant has caused.
This isn’t the first time the girl has been diagnosed with cancer; in 2015, she was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer.
Doctors eventually told Fiz and Tyrone that their daughter was free of the sickness and would enjoy a normal, healthy life.
She began to exhibit some concerning behavioural difficulties barely two years later, in 2017, and they have only recently become worse.
Even if it wasn’t cancer to begin with, the presence of the illness in her body may have caused her to act erratically.
Fiz and Tyrone are confident in their daughter’s ability to overcome her latest cancer battle since they know she is strong-willed.
However, once they realize that the sickness is far more aggressive than the previous type of cancer she had, their optimism for her future begins to fade.
Will this be the moment Fiz and Tyrone reconcile as they support Hope like a normal couple, knowing they must put on an unified front?
In 2015, the actress who plays Fiz, Jennie, addressed up about the painful truth that many parents experience when their child falls ill when speaking about the cancer plot.
According to the star of the daytime drama, “Fiz took Hope to the doctor because she was feeling under the weather, and they discovered a lump. Hope was promptly subjected to tests, and it was revealed that she had cancer.
“This is how things work in real life. We have the NHS, which allows you to see a doctor on Monday and, if necessary, undergo chemo by Friday.”
“I suppose I felt honoured that they chose our family to do it,” Jennie continued. “It is a significant storyline that Corrie was attempting.”
“They had entrusted us with telling Corrie this sad but crucial narrative. You do feel a sense of obligation to execute things correctly.
In an interview with This Morning, the actress explained, “We are a family program on at 7.30pm, so we have to be real but also compassionate.”
The actress also used the opportunity to raise awareness about how members of the public may assist cancer patients in their treatment.
She said: “When I donated Albert’s [Jennie’s son] cord blood when he was born, I couldn’t imagine I would be filming that storyline.”
“Doing it has prompted me to register as a blood donor, an organ donor, and a bone marrow donor,” she concluded.
“It just made me wonder, ‘Why aren’t we all on it?'” says the author.
ITV has not verified this twist in Hope’s current plot, but they have not shied away from portraying health issues in recent years.
