Mia has an unpleasant guest as the past comes back to haunt her next week on Home and Away in the UK, and will Dean’s enthusiasm to get back in the water jeopardize his recovery?
When Mia Anderson (Anna Samson) answered a call from an unknown number last week, she was stunned to learn that it was Chloe’s father, Matthew Montgomery (James Sweeny).
Mia abruptly ended Matthew’s call, reminding him that she’d told him she didn’t want to be contacted and that he should never call her again. However, as Matthew’s phone continued to ring, Mia was obliged to divulge the caller’s identity to Ari (Rob Kipa-Williams).
Mia revealed that she hadn’t seen Matthew in over 20 years because of an event at a party that resulted in her pregnancy with Chloe. Mia admits she has no recollection of what happened because she was so inebriated, except that Matthew took her into a bedroom to lie down before going into bed with her.
Despite the fact that Matthew’s parents were aware of Mia’s pregnancy, his mother gave her money and insisted that she have the pregnancy terminated. Mia stated that she would, but then decided she couldn’t follow through and left Matthew and his parents in the dark.
Matthew only recently heard of Mia’s whereabouts after reading about the chemical assault at her gym, and in doing so, he also found that Mia was the mother of a kid.
Despite Mia’s orders to leave her alone, Matthew arrives in Summer Bay this week and goes directly to the gym in search of her.
Mia notices Matthew leave the surf club, despite the fact that he doesn’t see Mia there, and denies Tane’s offer to pass his name on. She goes outside and calls after him after making her excuses to Ari.
Anna told Australian magazine TV Week, “Mia is in absolute amazement that the past has returned in Summer Bay.” “This is a man she believed she’d left behind for good reason. She is terrified by the prospect of him being in their lives. She is adamantly opposed to the idea.”
Mia expresses herself clearly, but Matthew reminds her that after 20 years, he deserves a talk, especially now that he knows she carried the pregnancy to term.
Mia eventually decides to meet Matthew in Salt, despite her doubts, and she agrees to listen to him out. He says that he is a barrister, and that his work has prevented him from having a significant relationship… or any children.
Mia freaks out when she lets Chloe’s name escape, confirming to Matthew that he has a daughter. Matthew hesitantly agrees to leave town the next day when she tells him that they don’t need him in their lives.
But a chance encounter outside the diner the next morning changes his mind…
Irene (Lynne McGranger) calls out Chloe’s name as she walks to her car with the morning food deliveries. She had forgotten her phone.
Matthew turns and looks at Chloe, coming face to face with his daughter for the first time.
He offers to assist her with the boxes; she declines because she is already near her car, but she thanks him anyhow. Matthew’s decision is made up after his first encounter with his daughter; he isn’t about to leave town without getting to know her.
A strange feeling comes over Chloe as she watches the stranger walk away.
Matthew inquires about Chloe’s business as he enters the diner, and a delighted Irene hands him one of Chloe’s business cards. Matthew now realizes he has the upper hand and has all he requires to contact his daughter.
When Matthew walks into the gym and tells Mia he’s not leaving town after all and wants to see his daughter—he already knows how she looks and has her phone number—not she’s impressed.
He delivers Mia an ultimatum—either she tells Chloe about him, or he does so himself.
Matthew is baffled as to why Mia is so upset with him, and why she hasn’t mentioned him to Chloe—he hasn’t done anything wrong, and he was never given the chance to get to know his daughter.
Mia, on the other hand, flips the script and tells him that she doesn’t want Chloe to know she was the victim of a sexual assault.
Mia explains that she never gave her consent for sex that night, pointing out that such an incident coming to light would be bad for his future as a barrister. Matthew appears perplexed by the claim, but Mia elaborates—she tells him that she never gave her consent for sex that night.
As a stunned Matthew walks away, Mia’s dread grows as she realizes the gravity of the situation.
Will Matthew leave town without a fight?
Dean Thompson (Patrick O’Connor) is eager to get back to his one true love, surfing, after overcoming two hurdles during his rehab—namely, the resumption of sexual contact with girlfriend Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and a growing dread of driving.
The subject comes up in conversation between Ziggy and her boss, Justin (James Stewart), who knows how alluring the call of the waves can be after his own medical troubles. By bringing up the matter, Ziggy believes they’re getting ahead of themselves, and Justin agrees that Dean shouldn’t push it.
When Justin takes Dean upstairs for a bite to eat the next day before heading to the surf club, he advises him about pushing himself to go back into the ocean. Dean worries how he’ll know when the proper time is without Justin having a brainwave… Dean always conducts the first session on the sand when providing surfing lessons.
Heading home, Dean sets up his surfboard on a large footstool in the living room.
As Dean tries paddling, everything appears to be going fine, but when he jumps to get up on the board, he screams in pain and collapses to the floor in a crumpled heap.
Has Dean done himself some serious damage?!
